Psychologist, Level I

Job Summary The New York City Police Department’s Candidate Assessment Division seeks a qualified Psychologist to support uniformed and civilian hiring. The role focuses on psychological testing, interview administration, and evaluation of emotional and intellectual functioning for potential candidates. Work Location & Schedule 235 E 20TH STREET, NY, NY 10003 Full‑time, hybrid schedule. Responsibilities Conduct psychological testing and interviews for candidates. Administrate, interpret, and select standard group and individual tests of personality development and intellectual capacity. Evaluate individuals’ emotional and intellectual functioning. Prepare psychologist findings and maintain accurate records and files of test performance results. Ensure compliance with all federal and city regulations for testing and data privacy. Minimum Qualifications Doctoral program in clinical, counseling, school, forensic, clinical health, or neuro‑psychology with at least 60 undergraduate‑level or graduate‑level credits in psychology. Two years of satisfactory full‑time experience under a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist in a hospital, penal institution, social services agency, clinic, court, school or equivalent institution. Completion of an American Psychological Association‑approved doctoral program and internship, providing one year of supervised full‑time experience. Equivalent of three semester credits in personality testing, individual intelligence testing, psychopathology (abnormal psychology), and psychological and/or behavioral intervention. 240 hours of experience under a licensed psychologist in each of the following areas: personality testing, individual intelligence testing, and psychological and/or behavioral intervention (experience under a licensed psychiatrist is acceptable for intervention). Valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education, maintained for the duration of employment. License Requirements for Assignment Levels Level I: Valid New York State psychologist license (must be maintained during employment). Level II: In addition to Level I requirements, a doctoral degree from a program registered by the New York State Department of Education and at least one additional year of satisfactory full‑time experience in a supervisory capacity. Level III: In addition to Levels I and II, four years of full‑time experience in clinical psychology, with at least one year under direct supervision of a qualified psychologist or psychiatrist and three years in a supervisory capacity as a licensed psychologist.
