Speech Language Pathologist

2026-2027 New Position

Primary Purpose:


Evaluate, diagnose, and provide intervention for students with communication disorders in the areas of articulation, language, voice, and fluency. Utilize expertise in evidence-based assessment and treatment methodologies as well as knowledge of federal, state, and district regulations governing special education services. Administer and interpret a variety of evaluation tools, develop and implement individualized treatment plans, and collaborate with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to support student communication, academic success, and social-emotional development.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:


Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university


Valid license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) or Bachelor's degree and valid Texas Education Agency speech therapy certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:


Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions


Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions


Ability to instruct and manage student behavior


Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills


Excellent organizational and documentation skills

Experience:


One year supervised clinical speech-language pathology experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Therapy & Evaluation

1. Conduct independent evaluations to identify students with speech or language disorders.
2. Provide individual and group therapy aligned with goals in students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
3. Monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting therapy services as needed.
4. Develop clinical management strategies, diagnostic statements, and evidence-based interventions.
5. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee meetings to interpret evaluation data, support eligibility decisions, determine placement, and assist in goal setting for students with communication disorders.

Consultation & Collaboration

1. Consult with colleagues, parents, and students regarding therapy goals, student needs, and intervention strategies.
2. Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities that support communication skill development.
3. Provide professional development to school personnel to improve identification and support of students with communication challenges.

Student Management

1. Create a safe and supportive learning environment appropriate for student's maturity levels and needs.
2. Implement classroom management and discipline consistent with the Student Code of Conduct and district policies.

Program Management

1. Continuously evaluate speech language pathology services and make program improvements based on data and findings.
2. Participate in the selection and use of assessment tools, instructional materials, and therapy equipment.

Compliance, Policy, Reports, and Law

1. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, services, and records in the district's digital management system.
2. Compile, maintain, and submit all required reports, documentation, and records in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
3. Adhere to the ethical guidelines of professionals within the public school setting.
4. Comply with all policies established by federal laws, state regulations, State Board of Education rules, and local board policies.

Other

1. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
2. Perform all other duties as assigned.

May direct and monitor the work of speech-language pathology assistant(s) or speech aide(s).*

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard testing equipment


Posture: Frequent sitting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting


Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, keyboarding


Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); possible positioning of students with physical disabilities; possible lifting and moving of adaptive equipment


Environment: Frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel


Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

*Supervisors of licensed speech-language assistants must be licensed by TDLR as speech-language pathologists. A person with a TEA certificate who is not licensed may supervise a licensed speech-language pathology assistant, but not if services are billed through School Health and Related Services (SHARS).

Contract Days: 192 days


Salary: Pay Grade 2: $57,860-$80,261, commensurate with experience
