Primary Purpose:
Evaluate, diagnose, and provide intervention for students with communication disorders in the areas of articulation, language, voice, and fluency. Utilize expertise in evidence-based assessment and treatment methodologies as well as knowledge of federal, state, and district regulations governing special education services. Administer and interpret a variety of evaluation tools, develop and implement individualized treatment plans, and collaborate with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to support student communication, academic success, and social-emotional development.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university
Valid license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) or Bachelor's degree and valid Texas Education Agency speech therapy certificate Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions
Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions
Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational and documentation skills Experience:
One year supervised clinical speech-language pathology experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Therapy & Evaluation
May direct and monitor the work of speech-language pathology assistant(s) or speech aide(s).*
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard testing equipment
Posture: Frequent sitting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, keyboarding
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); possible positioning of students with physical disabilities; possible lifting and moving of adaptive equipment
Environment: Frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress *Supervisors of licensed speech-language assistants must be licensed by TDLR as speech-language pathologists. A person with a TEA certificate who is not licensed may supervise a licensed speech-language pathology assistant, but not if services are billed through School Health and Related Services (SHARS). Contract Days: 192 days
Salary: Pay Grade 2: $57,860-$80,261, commensurate with experience Health Benefits: LISD contributes to an employee's TRS Health Coverage. Please refer to the LISD Teacher Salary Scale for current contribution levels.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Therapy & Evaluation
- Conduct independent evaluations to identify students with speech or language disorders.
- Provide individual and group therapy aligned with goals in students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting therapy services as needed.
- Develop clinical management strategies, diagnostic statements, and evidence-based interventions.
- Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee meetings to interpret evaluation data, support eligibility decisions, determine placement, and assist in goal setting for students with communication disorders.
- Consult with colleagues, parents, and students regarding therapy goals, student needs, and intervention strategies.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities that support communication skill development.
- Provide professional development to school personnel to improve identification and support of students with communication challenges.
- Create a safe and supportive learning environment appropriate for student's maturity levels and needs.
- Implement classroom management and discipline consistent with the Student Code of Conduct and district policies.
- Continuously evaluate speech language pathology services and make program improvements based on data and findings.
- Participate in the selection and use of assessment tools, instructional materials, and therapy equipment.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, services, and records in the district's digital management system.
- Compile, maintain, and submit all required reports, documentation, and records in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
- Adhere to the ethical guidelines of professionals within the public school setting.
- Comply with all policies established by federal laws, state regulations, State Board of Education rules, and local board policies.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
