Vice President for University Advancement Department: President Office Worker Type: Regular Pay Type: Salary Position Salary Range: $450,000 – $500,000 Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Benefit Eligible: Yes Job Summary The Vice President for University Advancement will lead Miami University’s comprehensive advancement organization, encompassing Development, Alumni Relations, Advancement Marketing and Communications, Donor Relations and Stewardship, Office of Solutions and Innovation, and Operations. The incumbent will serve as a key member of the President’s Executive Cabinet, advancing a culture of philanthropy, strategic fundraising, alumni engagement, and digital transformation. Responsibilities Develop and implement a forward‑looking advancement strategy aligned with the university’s mission and strategic plan. Collaborate with senior development staff to surpass the $1 billion capital‑campaign goal and sustain $100 million of annual production. Apply data‑driven techniques to assess fundraising potential and craft a multi‑year strategy that expands unrestricted, restricted, and endowment funding. Build and maintain relationships with individual and institutional donors, including major gifts at seven‑ to nine‑figure levels. Enhance alumni relations by broadening engagement programs and integrating them into overall advancement efforts. Partner with university leadership and stakeholders to position fundraising priorities with institutional aspirations. Guide the President and other executive leaders as chief spokespersons on fundraising and philanthropic strategy. Facilitate alignment among the Executive Cabinet and Deans on development priorities and strategic goals. Lead a staff of approximately 140 advancement professionals and administrative support personnel. Continuously seek opportunities to improve relationships with constituencies, achieving measurable impact on philanthropic revenue. Qualifications Required: At least 10 years of progressively responsible fundraising and managerial experience in advancement, preferably in higher education, with campaign experience. Understanding of the current higher‑education landscape. Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree or graduate study preferred. Ability to travel nationally and internationally. Desired: Integrity, sound judgment, and empathy. Credibility and the capacity to empower others. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficiency with data analytics, strategic goal setting, and measurable outcomes. Demonstrated ability to build upon existing development programs and increase philanthropic revenue. Experience working with boards and board committees. Knowledge of foundation operations and finance.
