Optometric TechnicianThis is a full-time position following the assigned school districts school year and paid all year round. (Monday through Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm) The school year includes all working days for teachers, including remote work days, and is subject to potential modifications throughout the school year.Join Our Team as an Optometric Technician!To support our mission of delivering high-quality, accessible vision care to patients of all ages. In this role, you will work closely with our Optometrist and Optician to ensure smooth, efficient, and compassionate patient experiences both in office and through community outreach. As an essential member of our vision care team, you will perform preliminary testing, assist with comprehensive exams, support eyewear selection and dispensing, maintain equipment, manage documentation, and help coordinate remote optometry visits. Our Mission is to eliminate gaps in health outcomes for all members of our community by providing access to quality, affordable, preventive and primary health care.What We Offer:Paid Time Off (PTO)Insurance (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Supplemental Insurances)403b Retirement with up to 8% match (starts at 3% and increases with time of service at HPWO)Annual Reviews and IncreasesMileage Reimbursement – Work related travelEmployee Assistance ProgramReferral Bonus – Earn more by expanding our teamTraining OpportunitiesEligible to apply for the Emerging Leaders Program after 1 year of serviceFTCA Malpractice CoverageEDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:High school diplomaREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:Successful completion of in-house training.SKILLS/ABILITIES:Ability to operate specialized equipment.CPR - BLS (basic life support)Strong customer services, interpersonal, sales and communication skills.Ability to work as a team member.Computer experience is desirable.Ability to work with a culturally diverse group of people.Must be willing to work flexible hours as required by position.Ability to lift 20-50 pounds.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:Assume quality of care for all patients.Perform preliminary testing to include: Auto-refraction, intra-ocular pressure, neutralizing prescription eyewear (Lensometry), visual acuity, motility testing, pupil assessment, confrontation visual fields testing.Documentation recorded into the electronic medical record: Preliminary testing entries and patient chief complaint, medical history, medications, and social history, previous/current eyewear prescriptions, but not limited to these entries.Repeat testing as requested by the Optometrist, and assist Optometrist as needed.Escort patient throughout the exam process and transfer authority to appropriate personnel.Assist optician with eyeglass frame selection and Pupillary Distance (PD) measurements as neededEnsure equipment, both Optometrist's and pre-test, is properly maintained.Recommend frames that suit the patient's style, face and specifications.Support the ordering and dispensing glasses.Educate patients on how to wear and maintain glasses and contact lenses.Perform administrative duties, such as managing prescriptions, patient records, and insurance.Submit necessary documentation to insurances to obtain replacement glasses as necessary.Provide clinical support to Optometrist as permitted by state law.Collaborate with schools to support the provision of vision services for children throughout Health Partners service areas.Assist with set up of mobile equipment.Document all patient care provided according to policy.Adhere to the Health Partners of Western Ohio Integrated Health Care Philosophy.WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is mostly sedentary demanding sitting, some walking, lifting, and bending. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination normally associated with duties in an office setting will be performed on a repetitive basis. This also includes bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pulling, pushing, and walking. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, fax machines, and copiers is required.
