Job DescriptionUtilizing leadership, advocacy and collaboration, the School Counselor, 7-12, promotes student success by providing preventive services and responding to identified needs through implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program that helps guide all learners in their academic success, personal and social development, and career and college planning.RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Ohio resident preferredWill consider applicants from a surrounding state to Ohio within one hundred miles from the Ohio border.Border states include Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Indiana.Applicants must be able to meet travel requirements and be willing and able to obtain Ohio Certification.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.K12, a Stride Company, believes in Education for ANY ONE. Join us!Utilizing leadership, advocacy and collaboration, the School Counselor promotes student success by providing preventive services and responding to identified needs through implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program that helps guide all learners in their academic success, personal and social development, and career and college planning.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Delivers individual and group guidance curriculum supporting student development;Analyzes student data and develops data-driven programs for intervention action plans;Provides responsive services to individuals or groups on academic and personal issues;Provides an individual planning system to guide students toward post-secondary goals;Assists students in the acquisition of study skills, academic opportunities and benefits;Provides a support system that strengthens the efforts of teachers, staff, and parents;Maintaining transcripts for students in caseload;Supports standardized testing program; parent education; and staff development.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Strong written and verbal communication skillsStrong presentation skillsOrganizational skills, multi-tasking abilitiesAbility to work without direct supervisionFlexible schedule; Ability to travel up to 30%MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Valid State of Ohio School Counselor licenseMaster's degree AND1-year previous experience in counseling and/or advisement OREquivalent combination of education and experienceMicrosoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiencyThe ability to clear required background checkPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience with PowerSchool or similar systemExperience with distance learningAdvanced coursework in counseling and administrationExperience as a 7-12 teacherExperience in a customer service environment.Experience with Local, State, and Federal laws and mandated reportingExperience in a community school environment preferredWORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
