Guidance Counselor

Agape Christian Academy is seeking a Christ-centered, relational, and highly organized Guidance Counselor to support the academic, spiritual, social, and emotional development of middle and high school students. This role exists to help students understand their identity in Christ, navigate challenges with biblical wisdom, and pursue God-honoring pathways in academics, relationships, and future planning. The ideal candidate will provide biblical counseling, intentional discipleship, academic guidance, and administrative leadership in student support systems, while also overseeing the school’s testing programs and contributing to broader campus operations. This includes comprehensive college, career, and vocational counseling to equip students for life after graduation. Student Guidance & Support Provide individual and small-group counseling addressing academic, social, emotional, and spiritual needs Offer biblical counseling grounded in Scripture, prayer, and gospel-centered wisdom Support students in developing Christlike character, conflict resolution skills, and healthy decision-making Maintain confidential, accurate records of counseling interactions in alignment with school policies Collaborate with teachers to identify student needs and implement intervention strategies Guide students in exploring God-given strengths, interests, and vocational giftings as part of their development Academic Planning Assist students in course selection, academic goal-setting, and long-term planning Monitor student progress toward graduation requirements Coordinate academic support plans, including accommodations and intervention strategies Provide guidance for students transitioning between grade levels or academic tracks Advise students and families on postsecondary pathways including four-year colleges, community colleges, trade schools, apprenticeships, military service, ministry opportunities, and gap-year programs Support students through the college admissions process, including application planning, essay guidance, recommendation coordination, and interview preparation Provide structured career exploration through assessments, interest inventories, job-shadowing connections, and mentorship opportunities Assist families with financial aid processes, including FAFSA, scholarships, grants, and stewardship-minded financial planning Guide students participating in Ohio’s College Credit Plus (CCP) program, including eligibility, course selection, and credit transfer considerations Testing & Assessment Administration Oversee and administer admissions testing for incoming students Coordinate diagnostic testing for academic placement or intervention Manage all aspects of standardized testing, including scheduling, communication, proctor training, materials management, and reporting Analyze assessment data to support instructional planning and student support Maintain compliance with testing protocols and school policies Provide students with preparation resources for college entrance exams (ACT/SAT/CLT) and coordinate on-campus testing opportunities when applicable Classroom Culture, Discipleship & Biblical Counseling Biblical Counseling & Spiritual Care Provide biblical counseling to students facing academic pressure, relational conflict, anxiety, identity questions, or spiritual struggles Use Scripture, prayer, and Christ-centered encouragement to guide students toward repentance, restoration, and growth Support students in understanding their identity, purpose, and relationships through a biblical worldview Partner with parents and pastors when deeper pastoral care or outside counseling is appropriate Lead students in regular devotions, prayer, and spiritual conversations Mentor students in spiritual disciplines, discernment, and Christian maturity Encourage students to apply biblical truth to cultural issues, relationships, and personal decisions Support chapel programming, small groups, and other spiritual formation initiatives Help students discern God’s calling in their future education, work, and service, integrating biblical principles of vocation and stewardship Family Partnership Communicate regularly with parents regarding student needs, progress, and academic planning needs, ensuring families remain informed partners in their child’s academic and spiritual development Provide biblical encouragement and practical guidance to families navigating academic or behavioral challenges Participate in parent meetings, conferences, and support plan reviews Host parent workshops on college planning, financial aid, vocational pathways, and biblical decision-making for life after high school School Life & Community Engagement Faculty Collaboration Participate in staff devotions, professional development, and faculty meetings Work closely with teachers, principals, and support staff to ensure holistic student care Assist with crisis response, student discipline support, and restorative conversations Campus & Event Support Support school-wide events such as chapel, Parent Fellowship, Back-to-School Night, School Auction, Spring Banquet, and academic showcases Assist in coordinating student workshops on topics such as study skills, mental health, digital citizenship, and biblical discernment Coordinate college and career events such as college visits, career days, vocational panels, and alumni mentoring opportunities Administrative Responsibilities Maintain counseling calendars, records, and communication systems Develop and update student support policies and documentation Provide data and reports to administration as needed Assist with enrollment reviews and student placement decisions Maintain college counseling resources, including school profiles, recommendation processes, and postsecondary planning materials Track alumni outcomes to evaluate program effectiveness and strengthen future guidance efforts Academic Records Management Monitor, update, and maintain student transcripts, ensuring accuracy and alignment with graduation requirements in coordination with the Principal Oversee the preparation, accuracy, and timely distribution of report cards in coordination with the Principal Maintain and update academic records, including course histories, credit audits, and academic standing Coordinate with teachers and Principal to ensure grades and records are submitted accurately and on schedule Provide families with unofficial transcripts when appropriate and coordinate official transcript requests according to state and school policies Prepare and submit transcripts, counselor reports, and documentation required for college, scholarship, military, or vocational applications Testing Program Management Serve as the primary point of contact for all testing vendors and platforms Train faculty and staff in testing procedures Ensure secure handling of testing materials and compliance with ethical standards Communicate testing schedules, expectations, and results to families Required Qualifications A vibrant and evident personal relationship with Jesus Christ Regular attendee of a doctrinally sound, Bible-believing local church Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Biblical Studies, or related field Demonstrated ability to provide biblical counseling and spiritual guidance to adolescents Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills Experience working with teens in academic, ministry, or counseling settings Preferred Qualifications Prior counseling or teaching experience, ideally in Christian education Familiarity with biblically integrated counseling and discipleship models Experience administering standardized assessments or diagnostic tools State counseling or guidance certification (helpful but not required) Experience in college advising, vocational counseling, or career development Why Join Agape Christian Academy
