Expert Cyber Recovery Engineer / Technical Product Owner

Position Overview:

We are seeking an Expert Cyber Recovery Engineer / Technical Product Owner for a critical, high priority contract to hire role supporting the build out and operationalization of a comprehensive Cyber Recovery Program.

This role requires a highly skilled technical expert who contributes deep engineering knowledge, strong cross functional collaboration, and hands on implementation capability. The ideal candidate will serve as a cyber recovery engineering specialist and technical product contributor, helping transform program direction and architectural frameworks into practical, scalable, and secure recovery capabilities.

Rather than driving the enterprise strategy end to end, this role focuses on executing, implementing, and enhancing components of a sustainable enterprise cyber recovery capability-integrating cyber controls, IT operations, and resiliency practices while working in close partnership with senior architects, product owners, and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Cyber Recovery Program Development

• Support the design and execution of the enterprise Cyber Recovery strategy and operating model.
• Implement standardized processes, controls, and procedures that strengthen a sustainable cyber recovery program.
• Apply and enhance recovery frameworks integrating disaster recovery, cybersecurity controls, and IT resiliency practices.
• Contribute to defining and documenting recovery objectives, operational procedures, engineering runbooks, and risk mitigation steps. Technical Product Ownership
• Translate program and architectural direction into executable engineering tasks and deliverables.
• Assist in defining roadmaps, technical backlogs, and priorities aligned with cyber resilience and enterprise security objectives.
• Partner with engineering and operations teams to implement cyber recovery capabilities across infrastructure, cloud, applications, and data platforms. Architecture & Technical Strategy
• Provide technical expertise for cyber recovery architectures, secure recovery environments, backup strategies, and tooling.
• Evaluate and recommend recovery technologies and implementation patterns to ensure alignment with enterprise security and architecture guidelines.
• Ensure recovery solutions support critical applications and meet regulatory, compliance, and resiliency requirements. Cross Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with security, infrastructure, cloud, platform, and application teams to embed recovery capabilities into enterprise systems and operational workflows.
• Collaborate with business, compliance, and risk stakeholders to understand resiliency needs and align technical execution accordingly.
• Participate in technical discussions, dependency mapping, and readiness activities across teams and domains. Governance & Process Development
• Contribute to the development and refinement of cyber recovery policies, procedures, standards, and governance frameworks.
• Support creation and tracking of recovery readiness metrics, reporting dashboards, and operational performance indicators.
• Assist enterprise cyber resilience initiatives, compliance audits, and regulatory reporting requirements. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non technical audiences.
• Provide organized updates on technical progress, risks, issues, and dependencies to leadership and cross functional partners.
• Help drive organizational understanding of cyber recovery priorities, capabilities, and implementation progress.

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in cybersecurity, disaster recovery, infrastructure engineering, backup/recovery engineering, or enterprise resiliency roles.
• Hands on experience implementing and operating recovery or disaster recovery technologies and controls.
• Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cloud environments, security controls, and enterprise backup/recovery technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to translate architectural guidance into practical engineering solutions.
• Experience developing or enhancing recovery processes, runbooks, and operational frameworks.
• Strong communication skills with ability to work across cloud, infrastructure, application, and security teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of cyber resilience frameworks (NIST, CIS, ISO, etc.).
• Experience with cyber recovery vaults, immutable backups, ransomware recovery tooling, or secure recovery environments.
• Experience operating in large, complex, or regulated enterprise environments.
• Exposure to technical product ownership, backlog refinement, or agile delivery models.
