This is an opportunity for a contract position with the potential for permanent hire

Location: Camillus, NY

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30AM-4:30PM, Rotating Saturdays 7:00AM-12:00PM

Projected duration: 3 months + potential for perm

Summary: The primary function of a phlebotomist is to support in the execution of various assigned tasks, problem-solving, training, and making suggestions to improve work flow.

Position Responsibilities:

• Prior experience with blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Gathering and storing specimens following established procedures.
• Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g. urine or fecal) as needed.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Thoroughly understand all physician orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens per test order requirements.
• Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against script for accuracy.
• Prepare specimens for transportation. Properly store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate containers/tubes, label accurately, follow specified procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer phone calls, relay laboratory results to address inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required in certain states. At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a high-volume lab or hospital setting. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 2 to 4 years of experience required
