2027-1L Lateral Patrol Officer

Primary Duties & Responsibilities Perform the mission of the Aurora Police Department and fulfill the mandate of the City Charter, which includes the suppression of riots, disturbances, and breaches of the peace, apprehending individuals offending state and ordinance laws, and bringing them before appropriate courts. Patrol Officers support investigations, collect evidence, work under direct supervision of a Sergeant, and present evidence in court. Patrol activities are primarily in the field and conducted in all weather conditions. Handle emergency and non‑emergency calls for service received by the Communications Center. Investigate and determine the type or absence of crimes. Make sound decisions using knowledge, training, and experience. Interact positively with the public. Problem solve complex community issues and seek innovative solutions to reduce repeat calls. Salary & Compensation Grade IA: $95,107 annually ($45.72 hourly). After one year on the anniversary date, salary increases to $119,072 annually ($57.25 hourly). Hiring rates for 2027 pending CBA. Benefits City of Aurora benefits and retirement plans. Uniform: Glock 45 provided, $1,500 body armor allowance every four years, boot allowance up to $300 per year after first year. Lateral hires start with 160 hours of personal leave. Retirement: 12% bi‑weekly contribution to Money Purchase Pension Plan, with investment and hybrid defined‑benefit options. Minimum Qualifications Minimum three years of sworn peace officer experience in good standing within the four-year period preceding application. 21 years of age by projected academy start date. United States citizenship or lawful permanent resident. High‑school completion or GED equivalency. Working Conditions Field‑based patrol work in all weather conditions. Duties include responding to community calls and working under supervisory direction. Drug Testing & Background Check All selected candidates must undergo a thorough criminal background check and drug screening. Employment references will be obtained for finalists.
