Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Stepdown position at a short-term acute care hospital, requiring ACLS, BLS, and at least 18 months of RN experience with a focus on cardiac and vasoactive drip management.

Details

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — a true ICU stepdown in a short-term acute care hospital with 194 staffed beds
• Cardiac and Medical PCU patient population including heart cath patients, BiPAP, and cardiac and vasoactive drip management (Levo, Dopa, Nitro, Cardizem, Amio)
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:00–06:30)
• Weekend shifts required
• Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required for all travelers
• No on-call requirements
• Cerner EMR — experience required
• Travel pairs are not accepted for this unit

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license — must be in hand at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
• Current certifications required: ACLS and BLS (AHA or RQI accepted); NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 18 months of RN experience required; prior ICU experience highly preferred
• Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited program required
• Required skills: telemetry, IV starts, cardiac and vasoactive drip management, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy
• Trauma Level I, II, III, or IV experience required
• Preferred skills: ventilator management, charge nurse experience, and conscious sedation
• Cerner EMR experience required
• 2 supervisor references required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, central and peripheral line care, blood product administration, heparin protocols, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Pre/post cardiac cath and post-watchman and ablation care are part of the scope of this role
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Scrub dress code: red top, black bottoms
• Free parking available on-site
• Local candidates (Indiana residents) are not accepted for this position
• Current or former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler
• Current or past IU Health travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health are required to take a consecutive break to reset travel eligibility — 90 days for out-of-state residents and 180 days for in-state residents
