Executive Director

A large public institution in Columbia, South Carolina is bringing in an experienced technology executive to lead its Network Infrastructure Services department through a period of significant organizational change. This is an interim executive assignment focused on stabilization, restructuring, and building the operational discipline the department needs before permanent leadership is appointed. You will be empowered to make difficult organizational decisions. This is not a project management role. It is a leadership assignment for someone who has walked into a department that was not working and left it working. WHAT YOU WILL DO Provide executive leadership for all departmental operations, and supervise managers, supervisors, and professional staff Restructure reporting relationships, staffing models, and operational responsibilities Address performance management issues through coaching, corrective action, reassignment, or separation, in accordance with institutional policy Restore accountability, professionalism, customer service expectations, and operational discipline across the department Establish governance, communication, and decision-making processes built to outlast the engagement Stabilize departmental operations while maintaining continuity of critical IT services across network, telecom, and data center Improve collaboration with internal partners and stakeholders across the organization Manage departmental budgets and strategic resource allocation Ensure compliance with institutional policy, security standards, audit requirements, and regulatory obligations Document organizational recommendations, operational procedures, strategic priorities, and a transition plan for the incoming permanent Executive Director Recruit, mentor, and prepare internal leadership to sustain the changes after the engagement ends REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree and 8 or more years of experience. An equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience will be considered. 3+ years of experience with executive organizational transformation and change management 3+ years of experience leading organizational restructuring and culture change 3+ years of experience with executive leadership of large, complex technology organizations 3+ years of experience with personnel management, coaching, and performance accountability PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience leading organizational turnaround initiatives Experience rebuilding organizational culture following periods of instability Experience implementing governance and operational maturity frameworks Experience managing organizational change in higher education Enterprise IT strategy development Experience working with executive leadership, governing boards, and cabinet-level administration Knowledge of network operations, project management, change management, and enterprise network architecture and engineering Experience supporting audit remediation and risk management initiatives BEFORE YOU APPLY, PLEASE READ This role is 100% on-site in Columbia, South Carolina.
