Bus MonitorThe job of Bus Monitor is done for the purpose of assisting special education students while they are being transported to and from school; and providing some custodial work in the Transportation area.Essential FunctionsAssists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.Assists special education students for the purpose of providing for special needs during transport, safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport.Assists with cleaning the bus for the purpose of maintaining buses in safe and sanitary condition.Ensures teachers or aides are present to escort special education students to classrooms for the purpose of ensuring their safe arrival at school.Instructs special education students for the purpose of enforcing rules and regulations.Monitors students (e.g. unruly, disruptive, spitting, hitting, abusive language, kicking, etc.) for the purpose of preventing distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students/passengers.Reports observations and incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.Secures students and/or equipment with restraints, tie downs (e.g. wheelchairs, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.Other FunctionsAssists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.Job RequirementsMental RequirementsLearning Development- Level B Sufficient to read and write technical information and instructions, perform basic arithmetic calculations, understand commonly used procedures and methods, or operate equipment that requires some training. Learning development is equivalent to completion of a high school curriculum.Problem Solving - Level 1 Work situations are routine and regularly recurring, requiring attention and concentration, but limited discretion, consideration, and planning to adequately respond and carry out work activities.Physical RequirementsPhysical Skill - Level A Basic level of learned physical skill is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.Physical Effort - Level 2 Job requires light physical effort as a part of regular work routine, such as frequent standing and walking; frequent lifting, guiding, and/or carrying of light-weight materials or equipment; occasional periods of sustained effort.Social RequirementsHuman Relations Skill- Level A Job requires ordinary conversational skills and courtesy to exchange routine information, provide routine assistance, and/or help maintain harmony among work associates.Scope of Contacts - Level 1 The important job contacts are with peers in the immediate work group and immediate supervisor. Responsible for results or services that facilitate the work of others in a specific work group.Experience, Education, and CertificationsExperience: Job related experience is desired.Education: High School diploma or equivalent.Certifications/Clearances: Candidates are required to hold a legitimate Arizona DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, a current Arizona Driver's License, and valid CPR/First Aid certification. Additionally, individuals must successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, annual substance testing, and pass a Physical Performance assessment every two years.Compensation DetailsFLSA Status: Non ExemptPay Schedule: Hourly - Grade 107Work Calendar: Support 9 Month
