Custodian II

Position Description University Housing & Dining is seeking to hire a Custodian II to provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment in all residence halls. Under general supervision, the employee assigns, reviews, coordinates, and inspects custodial activities in the area of assignment in accordance with established guidelines. Responsibilities Perform front‑line custodial duties. Receive written and oral instructions concerning general custodial duties/staff. Develop work schedules and direct and inspect daily work routines of other custodial staff. Assist in planning procedures and work methods and advise or recommend revisions for improving the efficiency of operations and services. Interview and recommend hiring of custodial personnel as requested. Communicate with supervisor, leadership team, and staff. Perform all processes required by the department and use all equipment provided to perform duties. Maintain records and inventory of multiple items including time records, scheduling, staffing, etc. Schedule Generally, hours are 7:15 AM to 4:00 PM. Work every 3rd weekend with rotating Tuesdays and Thursdays off. May work occasional overtime to cover absences and peak periods of operation. Minimum Eligibility Requirements Ability to read, write, and follow directions. One year of custodial or related experience. Special Qualifications Valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Driving Record Review Standards. Desirable Qualifications Maintain and exercise a high level of confidentiality and professional communication. Knowledge and experience using computers, tablets, and related software. Experience cleaning commercial environments using commercial equipment in areas such as residence halls, hotels, hospitals, or nursing homes. Knowledge of commercial cleaning techniques for a variety of surfaces and materials. Physical ability to move heavy objects (50+ lbs) properly and safely, and remain on your feet for the duration of the shift. Experience inspecting a variety of areas, including eye wash stations, washers/dryers, vandalism locations, and battery systems. Demonstrated experience completing assigned projects from start to finish with minimal oversight.
