Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist Computed Tomography (CT) Duties:
Primary Cat Scan:
- Schedules DRT/CT exams in a manner to optimize scanner times while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases. This requires the ability to prioritize scheduled patients as well as the ability to accommodate the emergency patient who may need immediate emergency surgery, etc.
- Confers with radiologists to determine requirement of non-standard exams. Determines technical factors, positioning, number, and thickness of scans, etc., to produce and satisfy requirements of CT scanning.
- Advises radiologists or referring physicians of examination results.
- Performs peripheral and visceral/abdominal systems and extremities and CT angiography, including spine, head, and neck studies.
- Capable of performing reconstructions of general CT and CT angiographic studies when requested or when part of a standard procedure. Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients.
- Continually reviews new developments in the field of computerized tomography. Is continually on the alert to improve quality of exams utilizing the new technologies available.
Primary General DRT:
- Primarily performs complicated radiographic examinations.
- Receives patients, explains method of procedure, positions patient, selects and sets technical factors, sets up and adjust accessory equipment required, makes exposures necessary for the requested examination and archives images.
- Prepares contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist for the purpose of performing exams requiring injectable solutions such as IVP, cystogram, cholangiograms, fistulagrams and arthrography; and for the purpose of performing oral and rectal exams of the GI tract.
- Performs all routine examinations such as head, chest, extremities, and abdominal studies. As workload dictates, may also perform bone density exams, non-contrast CT head and abdomen scans.
- Operates the mobile x-ray machines in the operating rooms, nursing, and intensive care units and the emergency room.
- Maintains a safe working environment by proper use of radiation safety protection such as proper collimation, use of lead aprons, proper shielding, and techniques to obtain diagnostic images.
- Monitors all radiology equipment for proper operation, makes minor adjustments on the spot, and reports malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Keeps work areas clean and orderly, stocks rooms with supplies, exhibits a professional appearance in dress and work habits.
- Maintains current knowledge of new developments in the field of Allied Health Sciences, as related to Radiologic Technology.
- Utilizes time efficiently to perform the required number of procedures and decrease wait time of the patient without compromising quality standards.
- May be required by procedure or patient's condition to monitor vital signs, recognize allergic reactions and initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Receives and interprets all radiology requests by reading the order and history.
- Practices radiation safety to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self.
Work Schedule: Full-Time; Mon: Midnight to 8am and 4pm to Midnight, Tue: Midnight to 8am and 4pm to Midnight, Wed: Midnight to 8am

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
