Lead Plumbing Field Superintendent for Major Projects

Position Summary The Plumbing Superintendent is a critical field leadership role responsible for overseeing plumbing construction activities in the field and ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards. This role works closely with the Project Manager and field leadership to coordinate crews, trade partners, and project execution. Responsibilities Assist in development of detailed CPM schedules with emphasis on plumbing procurement, rough-in, above ceiling work, fixture installation, testing, and turnover milestones Assist in development of detailed scope of work for commercial plumbing systems Develop and maintain project site logistics plans related to plumbing material deliveries, equipment staging, and installation sequencing Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents, plumbing drawings, specifications, coordination drawings, and project requirements Manage the mechanical labor force and/or coordinate trade foremen to achieve optimum performance on plumbing scopes Review and understand material and equipment budgets for plumbing materials and equipment Monitor project costs, labor productivity, and installation performance; identify areas for improvement Provide leadership in the quality process for plumbing systems, including underground, rough-in, top-out, fixture installation, testing, and turnover readiness Provide leadership in safety and accident prevention programs for all plumbing field activities Document daily construction activities related to plumbing progress, manpower, deliveries, issues, and inspections Chair or support weekly subcontractor and trade coordination meetings with focus on plumbing interfaces and sequencing Issue and maintain long and short-term schedules for plumbing work activities Assist Project Engineers in the shop drawing and submittal process for plumbing materials, equipment, and related systems Verify that as-built drawings and field markups for plumbing systems are kept current Implement all applicable safety programs and EEO/Affirmative Action programs Coordinate plumbing work with other trades including HVAC, electrical, fire protection, civil, and general trades to reduce conflicts and maintain production flow Lead field execution for underground piping, waste and vent systems, domestic water, storm systems, equipment connections, and final turnover of plumbing systems Support inspections, testing requirements, punch list completion, and owner turnover documentation for plumbing systems Help identify and resolve field issues related to constructability, installation sequence, manpower planning, and system completion Qualifications Minimum of 7 years of applicable field leadership experience in plumbing, mechanical, or MEP construction field operations Experience with relevant large-scale commercial or industrial projects Previous experience directing and coordinating plumbing trades Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, construction principles, field practices, code requirements, and sequencing requirements Experience leading installation of underground piping, waste and vent systems, domestic water, storm systems, and plumbing fixtures Self-perform construction management experience highly preferred Previous experience working closely with Project Management teams through successful completion of project phases Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, shop drawings, and coordination documents Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and production performance Experience with self-perform plumbing work Experience coordinating inspections, testing, startup support, and turnover processes Experience working in occupied facilities, complex phasing environments, or technically challenging plumbing projects Familiarity with field technology, scheduling tools, and construction documentation platforms Strong field presence and ability to lead crews and foremen effectively Ability to coordinate across multiple trades and maintain schedule commitments Consistent focus on safety, quality, planning, and accountability Ability to anticipate issues, solve problems in the field, and drive work to completion McCarthy is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, including disability and protected veteran status.
