Licensed Professional Counselor – Pediatrics – Hematology/Oncology To offer psychosocial support and counseling to patients and their families, helping them cope with emotional and physical challenges. To coordinate a range of services, including group therapy, crisis intervention, bereavement support, client advocacy, referrals, prevention programs, education, implementation, and psychosocial assessments. To provide supervision for undergraduate and graduate students, and to contribute to the development and execution of performance improvement initiatives. Responsibilities Conduct and document comprehensive psychosocial assessments to evaluate the social, emotional, environmental, and medical needs of patients and families. Perform Level II evaluations for transplant applicants, donors, and individuals with mental illness or intellectual disabilities to determine discharge planning needs. Maintain thorough documentation, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with departmental guidelines and standards. Continuously reassess patient needs, monitor interventions, and update the plan of care based on progress or changing circumstances. Ensure access to medical coverage by securing necessary documentation and supporting materials. Provide or supervise the delivery of care plan interventions including resource and referral assistance, crisis intervention, prevention services, bereavement support, counseling, therapy, education, and patient advocacy. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement care plans that actively involve the patient and/or family. Coordinate with team members to ensure comprehensive, integrated care and to support positive clinical outcomes. Identify appropriate community resources, make referrals, and facilitate access to external services as needed. Participate in performance improvement initiatives including data collection, continuing education, policy development, and committee involvement. Attend and contribute to staff, department, and administrative meetings as assigned. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local community agencies, health and social service programs, and act as liaison when needed. Stay current on medical/legal issues such as advance directives, child or elder abuse, and confidentiality requirements. Support patients in navigating financial assistance options, including applications for state benefits, charity care, and other aid programs. Education and Experience Master’s degree in counseling or social work. Certifications, Licenses, and Registration Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Mississippi. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; psychosocial methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions and for counseling and guidance. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to gather, record, and analyze data. Ability to assist individuals in recognizing and solving problems. Physical and Environmental Demands The role requires occasional exposure to high noise levels, heat and cold, biohazardous conditions such as blood borne pathogens and radiation exposure, hazardous equipment, and the possibility of working beyond regular hours. Responsibilities may include frequent bending, lifting up to 75 pounds, climbing, crouching, stooping, driving, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, twisting, and walking.
