Senior Specialist Safety & Environment

Senior Specialist providing technical and program leadership for high-risk work and machinery safety across three manufacturing and R&D sites. Reports to Associate Director and serves as subject matter expert, translating regulatory requirements into practical risk-based solutions while driving sustainable safety improvements.

Responsibilities

• Lead West Point HRW Steering Committee and councils to align site organizations; follow GSE procedures and training requirements
• Serve as site subject matter expert for high-risk work procedures including hazardous energy control, line breaking, confined space, work at height, and hot work
• Develop and deliver technical training and qualification support for employees, contractors, and program owners on high-risk work and machinery safety
• Conduct field risk assessments, machinery safety reviews, pre-startup reviews, and critical-control verifications; document gaps and drive timely closure
• Lead or support investigations of high-potential events and machinery-related incidents; identify systemic causes and ensure effective corrective actions

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related technical field
• At least 5 years of safety program or technical safety experience in manufacturing, laboratory, or complex environment
• Strong knowledge of high-risk work controls including hazardous energy control, line breaking, confined space entry, work at height
• Working knowledge of machinery risk assessment, safeguarding, safety-related controls, interlocks, and emergency stops
• Ability to apply OSHA, consensus, and company standards to field work, design, and capital projects
• Strong investigation, risk assessment, problem-solving, and corrective-action skills
• Ability to influence cross-functional teams and communicate technical requirements; proficiency with Microsoft Office
