Paramedic (Quick Response Vehicle)

Summary A QRV (Quick Response Vehicle) paramedic responds from a rapid response vehicle equipped to provide emergency medical care in both emergency and non‑emergency environments. The QRV paramedic rendezvous with a BLS‑level crew to provide ALS care on scene and during transport, requiring excellent decision‑making and the ability to work independently and in a team setting. The role ensures compliance with all South Carolina Department of Public Health rules and regulations related to EMS, maintains ambulance equipment and vehicle in proper working condition, and holds all required licenses and certifications for an EMT‑P position, including a South Carolina driver’s license. Employees are subject to a six‑month introductory probationary period. Responsibilities Respond to all calls for service dispatched by the Medshore Communications center as directed. Provide rapid response to emergency medical calls from an SUV to rendezvous with a responding BLS crew. Operate independently, maintaining personal equipment and vehicle, ensuring all equipment is in good working condition. Collaborate effectively with other first responders to provide coordinated care in emergency situations. Communicate effectively with EMTs, paramedics, and other medical staff to provide accurate and timely information about patient condition and treatment. Provide flexibility by being willing to work on an ambulance when needed. Provide care and treatment to patients according to company policy and medical‑director approved protocols. Ensure ambulance/assigned vehicle and all equipment are cleaned and checked daily; report deficiencies immediately. Prepare and complete appropriate reports, including Patient Care Reports (PCR), billing, exposure reports, incident reports, and unit check‑offs. Ensure unit and crew members adhere to Medshore Ambulance Service policies, procedures, guidelines, directives, and standards. Report any deficiencies to the shift supervisor or Operations Manager. Ensure vehicles are placed in‑service in compliance with required laws, rules, license, and regulations. Promote prompt and regular attendance at work and mandatory meetings. Maintain readiness and professionalism while on duty. Maintain a professional appearance and conduct while in company uniform, whether on or off duty. Be self‑motivated and require little supervision and direction. Perform other such duties as may be required. Knowledge, Skills and Ability Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on‑site emergency medical services. Knowledge of company medical‑director approved protocols and standing orders. Ability to read and interpret local maps. Demonstrated skill in successfully completing multiple, simultaneous, and rapidly emergent tasks. Demonstrated ability to read and understand medical terminology. Demonstrated ability to write reports and correspondence. Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions regarding patient care, Medshore Ambulance Service operations, and other customer service issues. Demonstrated ability to use personal computer systems, including PCR reporting, email, and MDT applications. Demonstrated ability to represent Medshore Ambulance Service and other team members as an EMS professional. Working Environment Due to the nature of EMS care, employees may be exposed to inclement weather, potentially hazardous conditions, psychological stressors, diseases, and other illnesses. Frequent interruptions, work pressure, difficult personalities, and irregular work schedules are expected. Employees may be required to attend meetings outside regular hours and may experience periods without sleep, food, or breaks as determined by call load. Physical Requirements Performing this job requires using hands to finger, handle or feel; reaching with hands and arms; talking or hearing; frequently standing, walking, sitting, climbing, standing, or balancing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 180 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 300 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
