Salary: $80,000–$125,000, depending on experience
Schedule: Full-time, primarily onsite

Trueline is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join a growing public accounting firm in Des Moines. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys working directly with clients, solving complex tax matters, and helping develop junior team members—but wants a more sustainable alternative to the traditional large-firm environment.

You'll join a close-knit, collaborative team that produces high-quality work while giving its employees the trust and autonomy to manage their responsibilities. The firm offers manageable tax-season hours, every other Friday off outside of tax season, and opportunities to take on greater responsibility as you grow.

What You'll Do

• Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, and other business entities
• Manage multiple tax engagements and ensure deadlines are met
• Communicate directly with clients regarding tax returns, questions, notices, and planning opportunities
• Research and resolve federal and state tax matters
• Assist clients with tax planning and identify potential tax-saving opportunities
• Review client financial information and identify issues requiring additional attention
• Respond to tax notices and correspondence
• Prepare financial statements and provide related accounting support as needed
• Review returns and other work prepared by less-experienced team members
• Help train and mentor junior tax and accounting staff
• Stay current on changes to federal and state tax laws
• Build strong, long-term client relationships

What We're Looking For

• Approximately five or more years of tax experience within public accounting
• Hands-on experience preparing individual and business tax returns
• Strong knowledge of federal and state income tax compliance
• Experience with partnerships and S corporations
• Ability to independently manage engagements and competing tax deadlines
• Direct client communication experience
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work primarily onsite in the Des Moines office
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA, EA, or meaningful progress toward CPA certification
• Experience reviewing tax returns prepared by other staff
• Tax planning and tax research experience
• Experience mentoring or training junior professionals
• Familiarity with CCH Axcess, UltraTax, QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, or similar tax and accounting platforms

A CPA or EA is strongly preferred but not required. Candidates without the credential will still be considered if they bring strong public accounting, technical tax, review, and client-facing experience.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary of $80,000–$125,000, depending on experience
