This per diem role as a Patient Access Specialist I offers an opportunity to support patients through their healthcare journey by ensuring accurate scheduling, registration, and financial processing.
Job Summary
As a Patient Access Specialist I, you will provide exceptional customer service by accurately registering patients, verifying insurance and benefits, and managing financial responsibilities such as co-payments and statement balances. You will be the first point of contact, ensuring patients feel comfortable, respected, and supported throughout their visit.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and register patients using healthcare software, maintaining data integrity including patient identification and insurance verification.
- Obtain necessary referrals and pre-authorizations for services.
- Conduct registration interviews prior to initial visits.
- Perform point-of-service collections and manage daily cash drawer operations.
- Handle multi-line phone systems to route calls professionally and efficiently.
- Respond to patient inquiries with empathy and accuracy, ensuring confidentiality and dignity.
- Complete daily administrative tasks, including mail processing and workflow improvements.
- Participate in special projects and support team activities.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.
- Healthcare experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare revenue cycle is advantageous.
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is encouraged.
Skills and Abilities

- Proficiency with insurance verification systems and healthcare software.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and various office equipment.

Work Environment
This position operates within a supportive healthcare setting in the Pacific Northwest, offering a balance of privacy and access to urban amenities. The role involves 10-hour shifts on a per diem basis, providing flexibility and variety in your work schedule.
