Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical

Job Overview

We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical Surgical unit. This position offers an opportunity to provide high-quality patient care in a dynamic environment, focusing on medical-surgical patients with a variety of conditions.

Shift Details

The position offers a 12-hour shift schedule with a guaranteed 36 hours per week. The shifts include every other weekend and holidays as needed.

Unit Information

Unit Type: Medical Surgical
Number of Beds: 30
Nurse to Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:4-5
- Nights: 1:5-6
Common Diagnoses: Total joint replacement, spinal surgery, urology procedures, abdominal surgeries, bariatrics, medical overflow.
Common Procedures: Management of hemo hemovacs and JP drains, colostomies.

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse will engage in the following responsibilities:

Provide direct patient care, including assessments and interventions.
Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
Educate patients and families regarding health conditions and post-operative care.
Perform bedside shift reports to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a surgical setting.
Current BLS certification.
Familiarity with post-operative care and early ambulation protocols is preferred.
Ability to float to medical and telemetry units as needed.

Support Staff

The unit is supported by patient care technicians at a ratio of 1:12 and has remote monitoring capabilities.

Additional Information

This unit fosters a close-knit and positive culture, with an emphasis on teamwork and quality patient care. A charge nurse is present on both shifts to support staff and manage patient flows.
