Student Coordinator

: The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center (LGBT RC) is seeking a student who is highly motivated and enthusiastic about LGBTQIA+ issues on campus. As a work-study position, this student staff will assist with LGBT RC community-building initiatives, including our signature events like Fabulous Fridays, Big QT Welcome, Pride Week, and Lavender Graduation. This student staff will have the opportunity to plan, coordinate, and facilitate engaging and creative LGBTQIA+ events and groups, collaborate with various student and campus partners, and connect with students in fun and meaningful ways. In addition to these duties, student staff lead in fostering a welcoming environment for students and visitors in the center, represent our office at outreach events, assist in-office maintenance, and help connect students to resources and support. Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of the Community Development and Engagement Coordinator, assist with the planning and coordination of community and cultural events such as Fabulous Fridays, the Big QT Welcome, Pride Week, and Lavender Graduation
• Support with collaborations, communications, and outreach with campus partners and student organizations and groups for LGBT RC events and services, as well as other campus community events
• Alongside other student workers, facilitate Fabulous Friday events ensuring students are engaged, welcomed, and that LGBT RC community guidelines are followed
• Assist with the moderation of LGBT RC Discord server including Weekly Whiteboard Questions, answering student questions, engaging students in conversations, and notifying full-time staff of any concerning comments or behavior on the server
• Assist the Coordinator in their responsibilities by chairing the Pride Week committee
• Assist the Coordinator with recruiting and managing volunteers to create and facilitate different affinity spaces and/or groups for student populations that are marginalized within the LGBTQIA+ community (trans and non-binary students, asexual and aromantic students, queer and trans students of color, international students, etc.)
• Assist with general office duties, such as answering phones, greeting guests, maintaining the library, space cleaning and upkeep, assisting students, etc.
• Represent the LGBT RC and the University of Utah at events, tabling functions, meetings, etc.
• Distribute brochures, flyers, posters, and other advertising materials related to LGBT RC events, programs, and services
• Attend weekly staff meetings and one-on-one supervision meetings
• Other duties as assigned

• Must be a current, enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Utah.
• Must be available to work 19 hours a week. This includes academic breaks (summer, fall, spring, etc.), as well as occasional evening and weekend work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to this role. Enthusiasm and skills in connecting and working with people from different backgrounds are a must. Strong organizational skills are critical. Interest in researching and creating content related to LGBTQIA+ identities, experiences and histories preferred.
• The successful candidate will enjoy working with people. Past experience doing community-building work and planning and facilitating community events with teams, groups, or organizations is highly desired. Candidates must demonstrate enthusiasm for learning about LGBTQIA+ identities and working with students of diverse backgrounds.
• Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Training for essential office tools will be provided.
• This position is work -study eligible. However, it is open to all students, regardless of work-study status. Preference will be given to work-study eligible students.
