Head Wrestling Coach

Wrestling Head Coach (2026-2027) Location: Aiken County Public Schools, Midland Valley High School, Graniteville, South Carolina. Position Details Position Title: Head Coach Department: Athletics Reports To: Athletic Director Starting Date: September 5, 2026 Summary To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self‑esteem. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Coaches individuals in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved. Plans and schedules a regular practice program during the season. Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the sport is conducted at all times when students are present. Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season. Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students. Maintains competency in rules, rule interpretations, meet procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport. Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in this sport and is consistent in establishing criteria for eligibility. Adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow up. Works closely with the athletics director in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests. Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms. Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork. Accounts for all equipment or delegates the responsibility. Develops a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform parents and the general public about the athletic program. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor. Job Specifications Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise students of the program in accordance with district policies and applicable laws. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a pleasant, professional, efficient manner. Must be reliable, responsible and dependable and fulfill obligations. Education and Experience To be decided by Executive Director and/or Building Principal. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate, if applicable. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before administrators, staff, parents and students. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Other Skills and Abilities Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Physical Demands The employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand; travel from building to other sites. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments. Work Environment Work inside, meets deadlines with severe time constraints, works irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties. Noise level varies from quiet to loud. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well‑being and work output of students and coaches. Term of Employment Seasonal. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated annually according to Board Policy.
