This high-level, fully hands-on field role leads complex commercial plumbing installations, start-ups, controls integration, and service work across an active project portfolio. You independently install, troubleshoot, commission, and service commercial plumbing systems while coordinating closely with field crews and clearly communicating with project stakeholders. The position suits a strong problem-solver and confident communicator who is highly skilled in controls and interlocking and takes pride in delivering systems that operate correctly from day one.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform complex commercial plumbing installations, start-ups, and commissioning activities in the field.
• Independently install, troubleshoot, and service commercial plumbing systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
• Integrate plumbing systems with HVAC equipment and controls, including wiring, interlocking, and functional testing.
• Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings, schematics, and submittals to plan and execute work accurately.
• Diagnose system issues quickly and apply effective troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques to resolve them.
• Produce clean, clear, and well-organized service and start-up reports that document work performed, findings, and recommendations.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with general contractors, project managers, architects, owners, and other stakeholders on job sites.
• Coordinate with field foremen and crews, walking them through upcoming work and explaining how to prepare systems for start-up, testing, and final inspections.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable safety standards, codes, and best practices, leveraging OSHA and NYC safety training.
• Represent the organization with intelligence, clarity, and professionalism on every job site.
• Provide guidance in the field and, when applicable, help train and mentor junior technicians to support high-quality project execution.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 10 years of hands-on commercial plumbing experience, including at least 4 years in a lead capacity.
• Strong electrical and controls with the ability to wire, troubleshoot, and interlock HVAC equipment independently.
• Solid working knowledge of boiler systems and their integration within commercial mechanical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings, schematics, and submittals with a high degree of accuracy.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex commercial plumbing and HVAC-related issues.
• Strong written communication skills, including the ability to produce clean, clear, and detailed service and start-up reports.
• Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with clients, general contractors, architects, and owners.
• Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
• NYC Site Safety Training (SST) card.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on NYC commercial projects.
• Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish is a plus.
• Experience training and mentoring junior technicians.
• HVAC, mechanical service, and installation work.

Work Environment

This is a field-based role focused on commercial job sites, where you work directly with foremen, crews, general contractors, project managers, architects, and owners. You regularly participate in on-site walk-throughs to review upcoming work and system readiness for start-up, testing, and final inspections. The environment is highly collaborative and fast-paced, requiring clear, professional communication and detailed written reporting. Work is performed around mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, following OSHA and NYC safety standards and using standard trade tools and controls equipment. Attire is typical for commercial construction and field service settings, with appropriate safety gear worn as required on each job site.

This is a Contract position based out of New York, NY.

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $65.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
