Newark, NJ, US 4 days ago Requisition ID: 4212 Salary Range: $70,000.00 To $77,000.00 Annually French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Field Municipal Staff Engineer for our office in Newark, NJ. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent Civil Engineering graduate who is interested in municipal infrastructure, construction engineering, and field operations. In this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers and construction professionals while gaining hands‑on experience on a variety of municipal and utility infrastructure projects throughout New Jersey. Responsibilities Assist with observing and documenting construction activities for municipal and utility infrastructure projects, including water distribution, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and roadway improvements Support senior staff with monitoring contractor work to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, and applicable standards Prepare daily field reports documenting project progress, site conditions, installed quantities, and completed work Take and organize photographic documentation of construction progress and key milestones Assist with tracking quantities and maintaining project records for payment applications and project documentation Communicate with contractors, municipal representatives, utility companies, and project team members regarding field activities and project updates Attend construction meetings and assist with documenting discussions, action items, and project progress Help verify materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project requirements and quality standards Support the review process for shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders under the guidance of senior staff Monitor project schedules and communicate potential delays or field concerns to project managers Observe job site safety practices and report unsafe conditions when identified Assist with project closeout activities, including punch list preparation and final inspections Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field required Internship or co‑op experience in construction, transportation, municipal engineering, or utilities is a plus Interest in municipal infrastructure, construction inspection, and field engineering Basic understanding of construction methods, engineering plans, and specifications preferred Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey as needed Benefits 401(k) Retirement Plan with Employer Matching Roth 401(k) Option Individual and Dependent Life Insurance Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance Health Wellness Programs, Flu shots, Rewards for Healthy Lifestyle Tuition Reimbursement Training and Professional Development Opportunities for Community Outreach Through Internal Networks Personal Time Off Program (PTO) Transit/Parking Program Flexible Summer Work Schedules Aflac Discount Tickets: Tickets At Work, LifeMart, and Staples Work Wins Credit Union Verizon Wireless Discount Dry Cleaning Service Corporate Events, Outings & Activities Compensation The projected compensation range for this position is $70,000 to $77,000.
