Position Summary

Produce accurate, timely financial information and maintain the controls, planning, and transaction disciplines that protect company assets and improve business performance. The Accounting Manager is the financial operating partner to leadership and Store Managers.

Definition of Success

• Monthly financial statements and management reporting are accurate, complete, reconciled, and delivered on time.
• Cash, receivables, payables, sales tax, payroll interfaces, banking, and balance-sheet accounts are controlled and visible.
• Leaders understand store/company P&L performance, drivers, variances, risks, and required actions.
• Budgets, forecasts, cash planning, and scenario analyses support sound decisions and growth investments.
• Policies, approvals, segregation of duties, documentation, and audit readiness reduce error, fraud, and compliance risk.
• Finance processes scale with additional locations, systems, volume, and acquisition activity.

Essential Responsibilities

Financial Reporting And Close

• Own the monthly close calendar, general ledger, reconciliations, accruals, inventory accounting, revenue/cost recognition, and financial-statement preparation.
• Deliver company and store reporting with variance analysis and clear business interpretation.

Controls And Transaction Integrity

• Design and enforce controls for cash, deposits, credit, purchasing, payables, receivables, inventory adjustments, expenses, banking, and system access.
• Maintain approval limits, documentation, segregation of duties, and exception reporting.

Business Performance

• Co-own P&L performance visibility with Store Managers and operating leaders; help translate results into controllable actions.
• Analyze sales, gross margin, price/cost effects, freight, labor, operating expense, working capital, and profitability.

Planning And Cash

• Lead annual budget, rolling forecast, cash forecast, capital planning, and scenario analysis.
• Evaluate financial impacts of growth initiatives, new stores, vendor programs, pricing decisions, and acquisitions.

AP/AR And Tax Administration

• Lead timely, accurate vendor payments, customer billing/collections, credit controls, and aging management.
• Manage sales-tax filings and support payroll/benefit accounting and other filings in coordination with the CFO/HR/payroll owners.

Systems And Office Management

• Maintain finance master data, reporting definitions, procedures, and system integrity.
• Oversee Westlake office supplies and general administrative activities assigned by leadership.

Leadership And Partnership

• Lead and manage finance staff; establish service standards and cross-training.
• Partner with COO, CGO, Director of Operations, Buyer, and Store Managers while retaining independent financial-control responsibilities.
• Coordinate external accountant, tax, audit, banking, insurance, and other advisors as assigned.

• Close completed by agreed business day
• Reconciliation completion and unresolved exception age
• Reporting accuracy and post-close adjustments
• Budget/forecast accuracy and cash visibility
• DSO, receivables aging, bad debt, and collection effectiveness
• AP accuracy, duplicate/late payments, and discount capture
• Gross-margin and P&L variance insight/action closure
• Sales-tax and filing timeliness
• Control exceptions and corrective-action closure
• Finance-team cross-training and process documentation

Qualifications and Capabilities

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred; CPA/CMA valued but not required if experience is equivalent.
• Progressive accounting leadership experience, ideally in wholesale distribution, multi-location retail, or inventory-intensive business.
• Strong GAAP/accounting knowledge, close/reconciliation discipline, controls mindset, financial analysis, spreadsheet/reporting, and ERP proficiency.
• Able to explain financial results plainly and partner constructively while maintaining appropriate control independence.

Leadership and Decision Expectations

Use sound judgment within delegated authority. Communicate early when customer, people, safety, financial, legal, or reputational risk may be material. Bring facts, a recommended course of action, and clear ownership. Do not conceal missed commitments or allow known exceptions to age without documented follow-through.
