General Superintendent

Summary The General Superintendent provides comprehensive on-site management of multiple construction project sites, ensuring all projects are executed in accordance with the overall design, budget, and schedule. This role involves high-level oversight and coordination across various construction activities and project stakeholders. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversee the total construction efforts across multiple project sites to ensure adherence to design, budget, and schedule, including interfacing with client representatives, AE representatives, and other contractors. Plan, coordinate, and supervise onsite functions across projects, including scheduling, engineering, material control, and the direction of onsite administrative staff in accounting, purchasing, etc. Supervise craft employees and other contractors as required by contracts across multiple sites. Authorize and approve all project personnel transactions, purchase requisitions, field design change requests, etc., as needed. Provide high-level technical assistance, such as interpretation of drawings, recommendation of construction methods, and selection of equipment, as required. Assist project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards, and safety programs across all sites. Ensure compliance with all project procedures, safety program requirements, and work rules across all projects. Document violations, notify project management, and implement corrective actions as required. Assume responsibility for the productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance of the project. Perform additional duties as directed by senior management. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly manage multiple subordinate supervisors, each responsible for various field operations across project sites. Indirectly oversee a broader range of team members engaged in field operations. Requirements Extensive knowledge and experience in site work construction such as earthmoving, dewatering, underground utility construction, road, and parking lot construction, and surveying. Willingness and ability to travel frequently between project sites, potentially out of town or state. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and teams. Education and Experience Four-year engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience. Minimum of ten years of construction management and/or craft supervision experience across diverse construction projects. Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction including technology, equipment, methods; craft agreements, jurisdiction, negotiations, engineering, cost control schedules, and safety. Candidates that accept an offer of employment are required to undergo and successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination. This exam is essential to ensure that all potential employees meet the necessary health and fitness standards for the role. The examination includes a series of tests and evaluations conducted by a certified medical professional to assess overall physical health, identify any potential medical conditions that could interfere with job performance, and verify that the candidate is capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position.
