Language & Culture Specialist II / Spanish Interpreter / GI

Position Summary Under general supervision, provide interpreting services in a culturally sensitive manner to facilitate communication and the relaying of medical information between speakers of different languages at CHLA. Provide written translations as required during patient encounters such as medical instructions, medication schedules, and any hospital‑related administrative correspondence with patients/families, including information, education, and documentation materials. Collaborate with other health‑care team members in the delivery of care, comply with applicable office and hospital policies and procedures particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent, and assist the department with on‑the‑job training and orientation of new staff interpreters. Minimum Qualifications Spanish is required; bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish. Minimum of 2+ years of interpreting and translating experience in a healthcare setting. Experience working with diverse cultural and socioeconomic populations. Competency in written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish. Ability to translate and interpret medical terminology. Experience interpreting and translating with patients across a full range of developmental and educational levels. Education / Licensure / Certifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related discipline (preferred). Completion of a minimum of 40‑hour Healthcare Interpreter training. Healthcare Interpreter National Certification or highest national credentialing through CCHI or a national organization (for spoken language interpreters). Translator Certification through ATA (where applicable). 85% – 90% score for language proficiency from a vendor selected by CHLA. Pay Scale Information USD $51,979.00 – USD $85,394.00 (salary range for candidates meeting the specified qualifications and requirements).
