RN - Emergency Department - Nights

Job Summary The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient’s hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines utilizing a patient/customer driven approach. Responsibilities Performs comprehensive nursing assessment/reassessment. Establishes, coordinates and evaluates a plan of care based on analysis of assessment data, patient diagnosis, lab data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols and standards of care and other information as relevant. Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in patient status. Collaborates with appropriate health team members for coordination of daily plan of care for assigned patients, provides and communicates patient care, including accurate handoff communication reports, and administers and documents medications according to policies and procedures. Monitors and documents IV fluids and parenteral nutrition according to policies and procedures; completes referrals as indicated by assessment data; requests consultations for special needs, equipment, or information for patient and/or family. Provides patient/family education and discharge planning per documentation guidelines and protocol; clarifies physician orders as warranted and implements physician orders in a timely manner as evidenced in the medical record. Assists physician with procedures/treatments as requested or delegates to Care Partner as appropriate; documents “Readback” for all telephone/verbal orders; recognizes changes in patient’s condition and takes appropriate nursing actions. Involves family/guardian when providing care and in decision-making as appropriate; incorporates infection control practices in daily care; evaluates effectiveness of care and patient/family education; reports significant changes to physician and other team members as indicated. Provides specialized care to patients at high risk for injury, including restraint care with alternatives and adherence to approved procedures; pain management, abuse assessment, and safety/infection control measures as part of daily practice. Participates in learning experiences, professional development, and unit-based performance improvement activities; maintains currency in hospital/unit information and policies; supports teamwork and effective handoffs. Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION: Licensed to work as an RN in the state of Missouri. Current license and certifications as required by state of practice; Basic Life Support (BLS HCP) as appropriate; nursing licensure in applicable state; compliance with required yearly trainings and competencies. Working Conditions Working conditions may include exposure to blood borne diseases, varying and unpredictable situations, and irregular hours; may require handling emergencies and crisis situations.
