XR Radiological Technologist

University of California - San Francisco

Under the direction of technical supervisor, the ARRT certified, California-licensed technologist performs radiologic procedures in assigned areas at a safe and technical level not requiring constant supervision. Tech will perform safe imaging procedures on all emergent, inpatient and outpatient age-specific populations. Diagnostic procedures include, but are not limited to, basic radiographic exams using fixed and portable imaging equipment in various settings such as Outpatient/Inpatient, OR/Hybrid, ER, fluoro and Endoscopy. Work Schedule: This position requires flexibility to support a 24/7 pediatric imaging operation. The incumbent will work a variable schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays based on departmental and patient care needs. Every other weekend is a regular requirement. The selected candidate must also be willing to rotate between multiple UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital imaging locations, including Oakland, Walnut Creek, San Ramon, and the Outpatient Center, as needed to support operational and staffing requirements. Work location, shift assignment, and scheduled hours may vary based on patient volumes and departmental needs. Performs various radiographic exams and processes images on various archival systems. Professionally accountable for submitting high-quality images to PACS. Participates in performance improvement activities in the department. Demonstrates excellent customer service to patients. Correctly identifies patients for the procedures performed and their respective images. Follows Infection Control policies, radiation policies and good body mechanics. Maintains appropriate continuing education credits. Complies with all Medical Center and Department policies and procedures. Requires ARRT, CRT and California fluoroscopy license. New hires must not perform any radiology procedures until they receive their license (CRT) from the State of California. New hires may begin their orientation to the department, observe procedures and assist during this time period, which is not to exceed 6 months. New hires must receive their California fluoroscopy license within the first 6 months of employment or probationary period. Depending on the department needs, this position may require you to take weekday, weekend or holiday call. Per diem employees must work at least an average of four shifts per month to maintain equipment and procedure competencies and per diem eligibility.

Adheres to the AIDET acronym, when initiating rapport with the patient before, during and after the procedure; Acknowledge patient Introduce one self Duration of the exam explained Explain exam procedure Thank patient for having procedure at our facility. Confirms correct patient, correct exam, correct laterality and correct image identification with patient demographics and timely transmission to PACS. Produces quality exams, to include utilizing proper technique, views, positioning, labeling and patient identification. Properly prepares room, equipment and contrast media as needed to assist Radiologist. In accordance with the departments' Radiation safety policy and guidelines, properly screen patients for contraindications before imaging. Properly troubleshoots equipment failures, documents and reports key information to appropriate individuals. Prepares patient for imaging using AIDET. Identifies self, explains the procedure and confirms patient identification, and properly reviews exam requisition through the radiology information system, and or the hospital electronic order entry systems before imaging. Uses proper imaging techniques to include ability to recognize sub-optimal imaging processing and equipment malfunction. Properly carry out daily/wkly quality assurance procedure in accordance with accreditation compliance. Work safely and effectively with ancillary and procedural staff in the Radiology and OR environment and participates in the timeout procedure. Participates in orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents, and faculty. Maintains safety by being aware of environment and situational awareness. Maintains constant communication with patients as well as fellow staff involved with the exam. Presents oneself in a professional manner and with a positive demeanor to all patients, co-workers, physicians and departments. Performs portable, general diagnostic, fluoroscopic and trauma emergency procedures Maintains a sterile environment and performing basic OR room procedures, i.e. C-arm, portables.

30% – B. ADHERES TO POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Follows established department procedures and hospital policies to ensure accurate Patient and Image Identification- Policy 6.04.08. Utilizes proper body mechanics to ensure patient safety upon moving and or transferring patients and equipment. Follows established Radiation Safety guidelines; is knowledgeable and acts in accordance with California SB 1237. The Technologist adheres to the Society for Pediatric Radiology's Image Gently guidelines as well as the Image Wisely guidelines for adults developed by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Follows established department and hospital guidelines for attendance and tardiness. Adheres to all hospital and department policies and procedures. Additionally, remains current and compliant with all safety policies reviewed on the medical center Annual Safety Training module located in the online UC Learning Center link. Provides excellent customer service to patients, co-workers, physicians and other departments. Is respectful of everyone, including those of different backgrounds, beliefs, and gender. Engaged and maintains a state of inspection preparedness for Joint Commission/CPDH/CMS. Assures that work environment is clean and complies with infection control and environmental health and safety standards. Complies with the Hospital Hand Hygiene Policy. Is a role model by maintaining a professional, neat appearance and adhering to the department dress code policy, always displaying their hospital ID badge. Adheres to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, Standards of Ethics guidelines. Complies with Medical Center Attendance Monitoring policy - regular and predictable job attendance is required, based on the Dept Standard guidelines. Follows Med Ctr Payroll Policy by reviewing and completing Employee Timesheets each pay period.

10% – C. INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Utilize the Radiology Information System and related downtime procedure, to include the proper scheduling and completion of patient exams. Enters in the Medical Centers' current Electronic Health Record and ordering systems. Insures clinical data is correct and appropriate for specific procedures being requested and performed. Utilizes the Radiology Image archive system and related downtime procedure. Utilizes selection of the correct Visit and Accession Number. Timely and accurately completes all exams in the radiology computer system following the procedure. Keep updated information in the Incident Reporting System. Utilizes hospital/department computers for hospital business only and logs off computers upon completion of tasks. Adheres to Medical Center HIPPA policies and Cybersecurity policies.

5% – D. LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISION

Demonstrates leadership skills in the absence of a supervisor.

5% – E. DEVELOPMENT

Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice. Attends assigned staff development activities. Participates in cross training activities when necessary. Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned. Stays current with the technical changes in the licensed areas within Radiology by attending technical meeting, seminars, or by participating in other learning activities related to the field. Complies with the Radiology department expectations and service standards. Complies with current ARRT and CRT accreditation regulations related to continuing education (CE) requirements.

5% – F. PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT

Participate in related performance improvement projects for the department and hospital. Attends required hospital training, staff meetings and in-services.

5% – G. BUDGETARY

Is conscientious regarding the use of supplies. Adheres to the productivity monitors for the department. Assures patient information and billing codes are correct. Identifies opportunities for cost containment.

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a JCERT accredited radiology technology training program. Flexibility in scheduling, with the ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays. Must be willing to assist at any of the UCSF Medical Center Locations Ability to perform job duties in a safe, reliable, responsible and timely fashion Ability to work effectively and efficiently under any workload and/or patient volume Knowledge of related Radiology systems (list few examples). Ability to correctly prioritize and complete tasks, needing little or no supervision. Ability to prioritize and effective use of time. Preferred Qualifications: Prefer recent work experience in an acute care setting Required Certifications/Licensure: Requires ARRT Licensure or ARRT-approved equivalent.
