A day in this build shop
Picture your Monday–Thursday running 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.: you open a job packet, study P&IDs and blueprints, lay out runs, and choose the right fittings, valves, and switches. You bend tube on a manual bender, cut and thread pipe, check every measurement to 1/16-inch accuracy, and assemble instrumentation tubing and fittings. You move workpieces safely with a sit-down forklift or overhead crane, and you keep pace with the manufacturing schedule with minimal oversight. When priorities shift, you jump in and handle other assigned tasks to keep production flowing.
What you’ll work on- Interpret piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and blueprints for assembly layout
- Manual tube/pipe bending — see the bend method shown here:
- Cut and thread pipe to spec
- Assemble instrumentation tubing and fittings
- Verify dimensions with a tape measure to within 1/16 of an inch
- Stage and move assemblies using a forklift and overhead crane
- Follow manufacturing schedules with minimal supervision
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Hands-on manual pipe/tube bending experience
- Proficiency reading P&IDs and blueprints
- Strong mechanical assembly skills
- Knowledge of pipe fittings, valves, and switches
- Ability to operate a sit-down forklift and overhead crane
- Accuracy with tape measures to 1/16-inch
