Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to develop, implement and oversee therapeutic recreational services and assisting with daily operations for the Therapeutic Recreation Center. The work responsibilities of the position include planning, supervising and coordinating the scheduling of all programs for diverse abilities and needs; supervising staff and volunteers; coordinating the orientation of all new participants; contributing to the department objectives; assisting the Therapeutic Recreation Center Director in daily operations such as scheduling, budgeting and resource allocation, support program development and community partnerships; supervising, mentoring and supporting staff, volunteers and internship programs. Supervision is received from the Therapeutic Recreation Director. Bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation or an allied health professional field of study such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology or science, speech pathology, music or art therapy, special education, or adaptive physical education and one (1) year of experience programming activities for therapeutic recreation. NOTE : Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.Work on holidays, nights, and weekends is required to ensure availability of programs and events to the community.
