Sunrise Systems is seeking a detail-oriented Engineering Technician to bridge the gap between initial circuit design and physical hardware. In this role, you will support daily engineering lab operations, lead hands-on prototype assembly, perform component-level troubleshooting, and assist with validation testing for our LED display systems and power/control electronics.

Working directly alongside hardware design engineers, you will play a central role in transforming schematic concepts into functional, reliable prototypes and helping refine hardware before mass production.

Qualifications & Requirements

On-Site Requirement

• Within 30 miles from Pembroke, MA (Plymouth County).
• Please note that relocation assistance is not provided for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to EMC/EMI pre-compliance testing routines.
• Basic scripting skills (Python, C, or similar) to support simple test automation.
• Experience organizing component inventory and ordering prototype parts.

Education & Experience

Associate degree in Electronic Engineering Technology (ASEET), military electronics training, or 2–4 years of practical bench experience in an electronics prototyping or test environment.

Skills

• Soldering & Rework: Solid proficiency in hand-soldering and fine-pitch SMT rework (e.g., 0402 passives, QFNs) following IPC-A-610 standards.
• Schematic Reading: Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, board layouts, and component datasheets.
• Communication Protocols & Circuits: Familiarity with basic power rails and serial interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART).
• Equipment Operations: Hands-on experience operating standard electronic test gear, including bench power supplies, digital oscilloscopes, and multimeters.

Primary Responsibilities

• Prototype Assembly & Rework: Perform precision hand-soldering and surface-mount technology (SMT) rework, including fine-pitch components, jumper wires, and prototype harness assembly.
• Hardware Troubleshooting: Isolate and diagnose board-level issues down to the component level using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, digital multimeters, and thermal cameras.
• Test Setup & Support: Build custom test fixtures, programming cables, and wiring harnesses to support engineering validation and repeatable testing routines.
• Lab Maintenance & Organization: Maintain an organized, fully supplied, and safe engineering lab. Manage component stock, assist with equipment calibration tracking, and ensure ESD compliance.
• Design Feedback: Document build issues, schematic discrepancies, and physical layout challenges to assist design engineers in improving product manufacturability.
