Sr Accountant

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Revenue Accounting team, focused primarily on deferred revenue and contract asset reconciliation and technical revenue recognition (ASC 606) deal reviews within a healthcare information technology environment. The Revenue Accounting team this role would join owns some of the company's most significant and complex revenue arrangements and has direct visibility to Finance and business leadership. This role is well-suited for a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong technical accounting fundamentals and solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Candidates should be comfortable partnering with sales, legal, billing, and finance teams on complex revenue matters.

The ideal candidate combines a strong revenue accounting foundation with prior SaaS or technology industry experience - comfortable applying ASC 606 across both hosted and on-premise deployments, under both subscription and license revenue models, and skilled at evaluating multi-element contracts, contract modifications, and other non-standard deal structures. This is a strong opportunity for a technical accountant to deepen their revenue accounting expertise in a complex, fast-growing segment of the healthcare technology industry.

What You'll Contribute:

• Owns the end-to-end reconciliation of deferred revenue and contract asset balances, ensuring accuracy and completeness across all customer accounts and product lines, spanning both hosted and on-premise deployments and both subscription and license revenue models.
• Prepares and maintains detailed deferred revenue and contract asset roll-forward schedules on a monthly and quarterly basis, analyzing activity drivers such as billings, revenue recognition, contract modifications, and terminations.
• Determines the appropriate contract balance sheet classification - contract asset versus deferred revenue (contract liability) - for each customer arrangement based on the relationship between cumulative revenue recognized and cumulative amounts billed or collected.
• Records and reviews revenue transactions in compliance with ASC 606 and company revenue recognition policies.
• Ensure revenue, deferred revenue, and contract asset balances are accurately recognized, recorded, and reported in accordance with US GAAP (ASC 606).
• Performs monthly close activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis related to revenue, deferred revenue, and contract asset accounts.
• Ensures proper cut-off and completeness of revenue recorded across customer accounts and service lines.
• Investigates and resolves reconciling items between the billing system, revenue subledger, and general ledger in a timely manner.
• Partners with billing, collections, and systems teams to ensure deferred revenue and contract asset data integrity across source systems.
• Performs technical accounting reviews of new and modified customer contracts to assess revenue recognition treatment under ASC 606, including identification of performance obligations, determination of transaction price, and allocation of SSP.
• Evaluates complex arrangements such as multi-element deals, contract modifications, variable consideration, and bundled offerings to determine appropriate accounting treatment.
• Prepares technical accounting memos documenting revenue recognition conclusions for significant or non-standard arrangements.
• Serves as a subject matter resource for internal stakeholders - including sales, legal, and deal desk teams - on revenue recognition implications during the deal structuring process.
• Coordinates with external auditors on technical revenue matters, providing supporting documentation and responding to inquiries.
• Supports SOX control requirements related to deferred revenue and contract assets, including preparation of reconciliations and supporting evidence for preparer/reviewer sign-off.
• Identifies trends or anomalies in deferred revenue and contract asset balances and escalates findings with supporting analysis.
• Assists in the preparation of revenue-related schedules for financial reporting and audit support, and supports internal and external audit requests related to revenue recognition and deferred balances.
• Timely delivery of financial information and analysis to stakeholders.
• Assists in the development and documentation of accounting policies related to revenue recognition.
• Completes special projects as assigned on an ad hoc basis.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field - or equivalent (Required)

Work Experience:

• 3+ years relevant work experience (Required)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent analytical skills to assist in financial analysis required
• Knowledge of SEC regulatory agency reporting requirements and standards
• Knowledge of internal controls and SOX requirements
• Ability to translate large, raw datasets into audit-ready, GAAP-compliant financial information
• Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 and its application to SaaS/technology revenue arrangements, including both hosted and on-premise deployments and both subscription and license revenue models
• Ability to distinguish and properly account for contract assets versus deferred revenue (contract liabilities) based on the timing relationship between performance and billing/cash collection under ASC 606
• Ability to evaluate complex, multi-element contracts and apply sound revenue recognition judgment to non-standard deal structures
• Familiarity with healthcare IT industry dynamics - electronic health records (EHR), revenue cycle management (RCM), and payer interface/connectivity solutions - and how they influence contract and revenue recognition complexity
• Comfortable managing high contract and customer volume characteristic of a customer base composed of small-to-medium, independent physician practices across varied specialties

Preferred Qualifications:

• 4-7 years relevant work experience
• 2+ years SaaS industry work experience
• Public accounting experience
• Revenue accounting experience
• SaaS / Technology Industry experience
• Contract accounting experience under ASC 606, including multi-element arrangements and variable consideration
• Healthcare IT or healthcare technology industry experience
• Certified Public Accountant
• SaaS/technology industry revenue accounting experience, spanning hosted and on-premise deployments as well as subscription and license revenue models
• Contract accounting experience, including multi-element arrangements, variable consideration, and SSP allocation under ASC 606
• Experience with a customer base of small-to-medium, independent physician practices, where high contract/customer volume and varied deal terms increase reconciliation complexity
• Revenue and billing systems experience (e.g., Zuora, Oracle, Salesforce, or comparable revenue automation platforms)
• General ledger and ERP systems experience (e.g., Workday, Oracle, or comparable platforms)
• Advanced Excel and data tools (Power Query, SQL) to reconcile high-volume subscription and usage-based billing data
• Close automation platforms (BlackLine, FloQast, Trintech)

Working Arrangements:

• Standard work week or as defined by assignment requirements
• Primarily works in standard office environment or remotely
• May require after-hours, on-call support and/or holidays
• On-call and after hours work during peak times including end of month/quarter/year; during this time PTO is limited to meet business needs
