Job Title: Nursing Workforce Development (NWD) Grant – Success Coach, Project Coordinator

Reports To: Project Director, Nursing Workforce Development Program

Status: Full-time (1.0 FTE), grant-funded*

Description

The NWD Success Coach/Project Coordinator, for this federal grant, organizes and oversees day-to-day management of the Nursing Workforce Development program. The individual provides support to the Director of the “Supporting the Nurses of Tomorrow” project and leads the recruitment, engagement, and retention of project students. In addition, the project coordinator organizes, coordinates and evaluates the academic support services for the students using a continuous improvement approach to ensure student success.

*This position is funded by a federal grant. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding and satisfactory performance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Oversee day-to-day management of the Nursing Workforce Development program.
2. Lead the recruitment of eligible program participants and verify eligibility of all opportunity program participants annually.
3. Conduct information/orientation sessions for prospective/new participants.
4. Coordinate and provide academic support services for project students, organize activities, oversee tutorial and mentor components, and counsel students.
5. Monitor academic status of students, collaborate with faculty and students to discuss academic issues, and analyze incoming student academic progress reports.
6. Plan community outreach programs for participation by the students, including recruitment events with local high schools and student service organizations.
7. Develop innovative programs for program participants that recognize excellence in academics and contributions to the community.
8. Promote professional development of program participants through use of shared decision-making processes whenever possible.
9. Assist in preparation and data collection for institutional and federal reports.
10. Participate in School of Nursing activities and events and involve program participants whenever possible as part of their journey of learning.
11. Maintain student academic records and submit data to the Director in a timely manner.
12. Actively support the mission of Mount Saint Mary College, which provides a liberal arts education in the Catholic and Dominican intellectual tradition.
13. Perform other related duties as recommended by the Nursing Workforce Development Project Director.

Requirements

1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a graduate degree preferred.
2. Work experience in Nursing and/or higher education.
3. Academic advising and/or student counseling experience to promote academic success.
4. Excellent communication skills and willingness to learn new skills.
5. General knowledge and understanding of student retention and strategies to meet the needs of students from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds.
6. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, email, social media and internet software.
7. Willingness to work some flexible hours.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct reports. The Project Coordinator coordinates the activities of program tutors and mentors as described above but does not have formal supervisory responsibility.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting on the Mount Saint Mary College campus. Remote work may be permitted with prior approval and in accordance with College policy. Employees approved for remote work must have the necessary technological capabilities, including reliable high-speed internet access, appropriate equipment, and a secure, private workspace suitable for handling confidential student information.

Some evening and weekend work is required to support recruitment, outreach, and student events.

Physical Requirements

The work is performed in a standard office environment. The position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer; walking and standing, including moving around campus to attend meetings and events; frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, telephone, and other standard office equipment; and the ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and virtually. The employee may occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 15 pounds, such as files, supplies, and event materials.

Travel

Travel is minimal and primarily local, such as visits to area high schools, community colleges, clinical partner sites, and community recruitment events. Occasional travel to grant-related meetings or professional development may be required.
