Overview
Join our dynamic team as a CDL Yard Attendant specializing in Diesel and Heavy-Duty Trucks & Equipment!

The Yard Attendant is responsible for maintaining an organized, safe, and presentable yard while supporting daily operations across the sales and service departments. This role involves moving and staging diesel-powered heavy-duty trucks and equipment, preparing units for display or delivery, and ensuring the lot is clean, efficient, and work-ready. This role is essential to maintaining efficient operations by ensuring the lot is organized, equipment is properly staged, and vehicles are ready for sale or service.

Core Responsibilities

Yard & Inventory Management

• Organize and maintain the shop yard, ensuring all units are properly staged and accessible
• Park diesel and heavy-duty trucks and equipment in designated areas
• Assist with inventory tracking and periodic lot audits
• Quickly locate and retrieve units as requested by staff

Vehicle & Equipment Handling

• Safely operate diesel-powered heavy-duty trucks within the yard
• Move units between departments (sales, service, wash bay)
• Operate equipment such as forklifts or yard tractors (as required)
• Assist with local pickups and deliveries when needed

Cleaning & Presentation

• Wash and clean trucks and equipment, including pressure washing and basic detailing
• Ensure all units are clean and ready for customer viewing or delivery
• Prepare sold units to meet dealership delivery standards

Basic Inspection & Preparation

• Perform visual inspections for damage, low tires, or other issues
• Report maintenance concerns to the appropriate department
• Complete minor prep tasks (installing plates/decals, fueling, topping off fluids such as DEF)
• Maintain accurate key control and ensure vehicle security

Yard & Facility Maintenance

• Keep the yard clean and free of debris, hazards, and obstructions
• Assist with general facility upkeep, including sweeping and organizing
• Support weather-related tasks such as storm cleanup or snow removal (as applicable)

Operational Support

• Stage vehicles for photos, online listings, and customer presentations
• Pull and prepare units for test drives or inspections
• Assist technicians by moving equipment in and out of service bays
• Support coordination of customer deliveries and pickups

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company safety policies and procedures
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Maintain awareness of surroundings, including tight spaces and large vehicle blind spots

Qualifications & Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
• Experience with Class 6–8 trucks, diesel engines, and/or heavy equipment
• Ability to safely operate diesel-powered heavy-duty trucks
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Physical ability to walk, stand, climb, and lift as needed
• Basic mechanical knowledge of diesel equipment is a plus

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

· Primarily outdoors in a shop yard environment and involves exposure to weather conditions, noise, and moving heavy equipment

· Ability to walk and inspect vehicles/equipment in a shop environment

· Occasional bending, lifting, and climbing into/onto trucks or equipment

· Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods

· Exposure to shop noise, heavy equipment, and varying weather conditions

· Ability to lift 50–75 lbs and work in varied indoor/outdoor conditions.
