Position Description Torque by Ryder is hiring a Permanent Full Time Experienced Mobile Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet in Jacksonville, FL. Benefits Hourly Pay: $38.00 per hour based on experience Retention Bonus: $2,000 paid every quarter within the first year. Schedule: Flexible 40‑hour work week (weekend premiums apply). Fuel Card and Company Cell Phone provided. Work site service vehicle for mobile technicians. Medical, Dental, Vision after 30 days. 80 hours PTO your first year, starting Day 1. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred. Basic tools required. Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including: Routine preventative maintenance: oil changes, brake and tire work. Diagnostics and repairs, including AC, electrical systems. Advanced skilled level repairs, including major engine repairs, diesel after treatment or automotive fuel injection repairs. Four (4) years or more relevant work experience, preferred. NonCommercial Driver License CLASS E, preferred. Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred. Other State driver's license, as required. Must have minimum tools required to perform their job duties as outlined in Ryder's Maintenance policy 2.02. Able to take home assigned mobile service truck, as applicable, and secure vehicle and contents. Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles. Ability to: Understand and adhere to Company policies. Complete repair orders with the Company established systems. Create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization. Work independently and as a member of a team. Prioritize workload. Proven hands‑on mechanic, customer service, and account management skills. Demonstrates customer service skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Flexibility to operate and self‑driven to excel in a fast‑paced environment. Self‑starter and self‑sufficient approach. Capable of multi‑tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills. Detailed oriented with excellent follow‑up practices. Entrepreneurial spirit. Preventive Maintenance (PM230 & PM298) within 90 days. Brakes‑Air (BA220 & BA298) within 90 days. Brake mechanics/inspectors FMCS 396.25. Hydraulic Brake (BH220 & BH298) where appropriate within 90 days. Tire & Wheel TW220 within 90 days. CF609 & A/C trained and qualified (AC220 & AC298) within 180 days. HD electrical - DR208 within 90 days. Svc Island Support SBTIII trained (SBT220) and SBT Phase 2 within 180 days. Complete 2 of the OEM On‑Line diagnostic tool software courses as required by location fleet mix. Must pass a Ryder Drug Test, DOT physical, Rider road test, and Ryder background and Motor vehicle check including Drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years. Responsibilities Decision making: responsible for making decisions surrounding vehicle diagnostics and repair. Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard vehicle maintenance, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs with minimal support. Access and use internal and external maintenance documents; diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal support, utilizing diagnostic computers/software when applicable. Performs remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution to assist roadside breakdowns. Performs facility maintenance duties. Interacts with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task. Instructs and advises other technicians regarding maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics. Interacts with non‑contractual customers, exhibiting account management skills to independently facilitate preventative maintenance, repair issue resolution, and discuss new repair estimates. Coordinates work schedule as required by customers. Road‑tests vehicles to identify causes of complaints for repairs, ensures quality of repair work performed, and delivers customer satisfaction. Prevents maintenance responsibilities include but are not limited to: A/C & Heater: Operating the system, performing system checks, and identifying Freon and oil leaks. Brakes‑Air: Identifying components of air brake system, performing air system tests, measuring lining thickness, adjusting brakes, and completing brake repairs. Brakes‑Hydraulic: Road‑testing for proper operation, visual inspections for leaks, checking park brake operation, measuring lining thickness, adjusting service brakes, and performing brake repairs. Cargo Handling/Transfer, Liftgates: Identifying leaks, operating lift gate, adding fluid, making minor adjustments. Charging Systems (electrical): Visually inspecting batteries, cleaning connections, testing batteries, checking alternator mounting, replacing belts, performing basic charging system checks. Clutch: Lubricating throw‑out bearing, linkage, shafts, and cables; identifying proper clutch operation. Cooling Systems: Checking and adjusting coolant levels, inspecting for leaks, making minor repairs, recognizing antifreezes, using refractometer, pressure tester, flushing and refilling systems. Cranking System (electrical): Inspecting and testing batteries, cleaning battery cables, replacing batteries, charging and checking batteries. Lighting System and Electrical Accessories: Repairing minor wiring problems, replacing bulbs, lenses, and simple light assemblies, installing or replacing accessories such as heated mirrors. Drive Axles: Inspecting housings for leaks, changing oil and filter, cleaning breathers. Driveline: Lubricating drive line, inspecting components for wear or damage. Gas Engines‑All Engines: Checking and adjusting oil levels, identifying unusual noises and oil leaks. Fuel Systems: Replacing and priming fuel filter, checking fuel system components. Preventive Maintenance: Proper lube techniques, minimal tire inspection, brake check/applied stroke, battery check, initial fault code identification, conducting all PMs (PM298) including various special tasks. Steering and Non‑driven Axles and Alignment: Lubricating grease fittings, checking and adjusting fluid levels, adjusting toe and all steering components. Suspension‑Chassis and Cab: Identifying makes and models, normal operation, minor repairs. Tire and Wheel Maintenance: Performing air pressure checks, checking tread depth, replacing tire and wheel assemblies, mounting/dismounting and rotating tires. Vehicle Coupling System (PM): Lubricating fifth wheel plate and slider mechanism, operating slider mechanism. Utilizing key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available. Performing work in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e. safety, DOT). Using internal and external maintenance documents. Performs other duties as assigned. Ensures proper maintenance of all service, safety and environmental records required to meet and/or exceed corporate, federal, state, and local government mandated requirements. Accountable for key maintenance measurements established by company policy related to the inspection and performance of PMs, brakes, tires, wheels, including any maintenance items directly associated with the safety of the customer.
