DRIVER SAFETY HEARING OFFICER

Job Title Driver Safety Hearing Officer – Telework Hybrid Salary: $4,509.00 – $8,078.00 per month. Final Filing Date: 5/18/2026 Location Oakland, Alameda County (hybrid telework; full‑time, permanent). Telework requires California residency. Employees may be required to report to the office as needed. Responsibilities Contribute to the Driver Safety hearing process under the direction of a Driver Safety Manager I. Conduct administrative hearings on complex matters such as Physical and Mental, APS, Negligent Operator, Financial Responsibility, Fraud, and Special Certificates. Write detailed legal reports on case issues, findings, and decisions. Verify evidence and submit findings of fact and conclusions to respondents, their representatives, and record‑keeping agencies in accordance with statute, case law, and DMV policies. Render immediate decisions based on hearing proceedings, issuing appropriate written orders and notices of decision to customers. Analyze and verify the accuracy of administrative, medical, and legal documents. Provide information to Driver Safety functions and maintain communication with law enforcement, medical professionals, courts, attorneys, and other stakeholders. Qualifications Must have a valid California Driver’s License (CDL) and answer CDL‑specific questions on the application. Must have a Background Investigation cleared prior to hire. Must be eligible to work in the United States and authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship available. Eligibility to apply as a current employee in the classification, one of the following: lateral transfer, reinstatement, list or LEAP eligibility, SROA, Surplus, or training and development assignment.
