Position Description:

Materials Management Director

Purpose for the Position: 

The Director of Materials Management provides strategic and operational leadership for all materials management functions within a food manufacturing and warehouse facility. This role is responsible for inventory planning, warehousing, materials flow, and cross‑functional coordination to ensure uninterrupted production, compliance with food safety regulations, and cost‑effective operations. The Director exercises independent judgment and decision‑making in alignment with company objectives.

Leadership & Management 

• Directs overall material management process flows while collaborating with warehouse teams, including performance management and talent development. 

• Establish departmental goals, policies, and performance metrics aligned with business objectives. 

• Drive a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. 

Materials Purchasing, Planning & Inventory Control 

• Maintain accurate inventory records using warehouse management systems or ERP systems.
• Conduct regular cycle counts and physical inventory audits.
• Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies
• Monitor product traceability and lot tracking requirements.
• Direct planning and control of raw materials, packaging materials, WIP, and finished goods. 

• Direct centralized purchasing for all departments including SQF, Maintenance, Office, and Production. 
• Ensure inventory availability to support production schedules while minimizing waste, spoilage, and excess inventory.

Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance 

• Ensure compliance with applicable food safety regulations and standards, including FDA, FSMA, GMPs, HACCP, and applicable GFSI schemes (e.g., SQF, BRC). 

• Partner with Quality Assurance to support regulatory inspections, third‑party audits, and corrective actions. 

• Ensure accurate documentation and recordkeeping related to materials handling and inventory control. 

Cross‑Functional & Financial Responsibilities 

• Collaborate with Production, Food Safety & Quality, and Finance to align materials strategies with operational and financial goals. 

• Oversee materials budgets, inventory valuation, and cost‑reduction initiatives. 

• Utilize ERP and WMS systems to analyze performance data and support informed decision‑making. 
• Sage Implementation: responsible for PO’s and communication of program with team at Snap.

Other Duties 

• Perform related duties as assigned, consistent with organizational objectives and compliance requirements. 

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, or a related field. 
• Demonstrated knowledge of food safety and regulatory compliance requirements. 
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex operations. 
• Proficiency with ERP and warehouse management systems. 

• Experience working with or supporting federally funded or USDA‑funded programs. 

• Strong proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel. 

• Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and communication skills. 

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse workplace. 

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, SharePoint)

• Experience with ERP or traceability systems

Physical Requirements:

 

• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods

• Ability to work in refrigerated or temperature-controlled environments

• Ability to lift, push, pull, and move inventory throughout the shift

• Exposure to food production environments including noise and food allergens

• Ability to wear required PPE (hairnets, gloves, smocks, safety glasses, etc.)

Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed in both office and USDA-inspected food manufacturing environments. The role includes exposure to cold environments, production noise, and food allergens. The role also requires routine interaction with production, sanitation, regulatory, and audit environments to verify compliance and maintain inspection readiness.
