Housekeeping Manager

Overview Sonesta International Hotels seeks a Housekeeping Manager (HM) to lead the housekeeping operation, ensure product quality standards, and provide exceptional service to hotel guests. The HM maintains a neat and organized housekeeping and laundry area, safeguards linen and supplies inventory, and focuses on guest and associate satisfaction, expense control, and product quality. Responsibilities Operational Leadership: Assist in managing the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department to ensure exceptional service, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction. Ensure guest rooms, housekeeping areas, public spaces, and back-of-house areas are cleaned and maintained per Sonesta brand standards through inspections and quality assurance walkthroughs. Compliance and Inventory: Monitor operations for compliance with company policies, safety standards, sanitation requirements, and maintain appropriate inventory levels of linens, guest supplies, cleaning products, and operating equipment with cost-control measures. Communication and Guest Service: Accurately monitor and communicate guest room status updates to Front Office; respond promptly to guest concerns and service recovery needs with follow-up and resolution. Foster teamwork across hotel departments and lead effective communication. Operations Presence: Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) as assigned and respond effectively to emergencies and operational challenges. Maintain professional appearance and grooming standards. Strategy and Planning Develop and manage weekly employee schedules based on staffing guidelines, forecasts, occupancy, and business demands. Adjust staffing plans to balance operational efficiency and labor costs. Conduct regular inventories of linens, supplies, and equipment to support operations and budget objectives. Analyze guest satisfaction scores, cleanliness ratings, inspection results, and metrics to identify improvements and implement action plans. Monitor productivity and address operational challenges with solutions to improve performance and service delivery. Financial Management Assist the Executive Housekeeper in developing and managing the department’s annual operating budget. Monitor performance against budgeted labor, expenses, and productivity targets. Manage staffing levels and resources to meet goals while maintaining financial objectives. Participate in forecasting, planning, and budgeting processes to support hotel financial success. Identify opportunities to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and improve departmental profitability while maintaining service standards. Team Leadership and Development Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of housekeeping team members. Ensure training on policies, service standards, safety requirements, and procedures. Promote a positive, inclusive work environment with accountability and teamwork. Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to communicate activities, occupancy, service expectations, and priorities. Monitor performance, provide coaching and recognition, and assist in performance evaluations and improvement plans as needed. Address employee concerns promptly and professionally; promote retention through respect, communication, and continuous improvement. Leading with Passion Collaborate with hotel leadership and corporate support to achieve objectives. Lead by example with professionalism, accountability, integrity, and respect. Inspire the team to deliver exceptional service and exceed guest expectations. Physical Requirements Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move items up to 50 pounds. Frequently lift or carry items up to 20 pounds. May push or pull carts and equipment up to 200 pounds. Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing stairs, and moving throughout the hotel; ability to perform physical activity during shifts. Work Schedule Flexible to work varying schedules (weekdays, weekends, evenings, holidays, overnight shifts) as needed. Availability for extended shifts (10–12 hours) may be required. Must be able to respond to operational and emergency situations. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Housekeeping Supervisor or in a comparable hospitality leadership role required. Hotel housekeeping experience strongly preferred. Prior experience leading teams, managing schedules, and overseeing departmental operations preferred. Qualifications and Skills Excellent verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal, customer service, and relationship-building abilities. Highly organized with attention to detail. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities. Working knowledge of hotel housekeeping operations, procedures, and industry best practices. Knowledge of workplace safety, sanitation, and OSHA requirements.
