Overview Assistant Golf Professional Detroit Country Club Detroit Lakes, Minnesota Position Summary Detroit Country Club is seeking a motivated, personable, and service-oriented Assistant Golf Professional to support the club's golf operations and provide an outstanding experience for members, guests, tournament participants, and junior golfers. Working under the General Manager/Head PGA Professional, the Assistant Golf Professional will be involved in all aspects of the golf operation, including daily golf shop operations, tournament administration, merchandising, player development, junior golf, member and guest services, and outside operations. This position is designed for an individual who wants to develop as a golf professional, take on meaningful responsibility within the operation, and contribute to the continued growth and success of Detroit Country Club. Detroit Country Club is a 36-hole golf facility that features the par 71 Pine to Palm course and the par 64 Lakeview Golf Course. The courses are located five miles south of Detroit Lakes on Highway 59 in the beautiful north central lake region of Minnesota. The two courses are bordered by Lake Sallie to the north and Lake Melissa to the South. It is also home to the histortic Pine to Palm Golf tournament. With two clubhouses, full practice facilities and Brassie's Bar and Restaurant, Detroit Country Club is a very active facility. The oldest public course in the state of Minnesota, Detroit Country Club is also home to over 800 season pass holders. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in providing excellent service and wants to build a career in the golf industry. They are dependable, approachable, energetic, and willing to contribute wherever needed. Detroit Country Club is looking for an Assistant Golf Professional who does more than simply work behind the golf shop counter. This individual should want to learn the entire golf operation, develop relationships with members and guests, assist with tournaments and programming, and become an important part of the Detroit Country Club professional team. Experience Required Preferred Qualifications Previous golf course, golf shop, hospitality, retail, or customer-service experience preferred. PGA of America Associate status, PGA membership, or currently enrolled in teh PGA Professional Golf Management level 2 or higher program. Strong knowledge and passion for the game of golf. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment. Comfortable working in a fast-paced golf operation during peak periods. Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required during the golf season. Knowledge of golf tournament administration, merchandising, club repair, instruction, and golf technology is beneficial. Knowledge of lightspeed preferred but not required Essential Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities Golf Operations Assist with the daily operation of the Pine to Palm and Lakeview golf clubhouses. Provide exceptional service to members, guests, and tournament participants. Assist with tee-time management, golfer check-in, cart assignments, and pace-of-play coordination. Help supervise and train golf shop and outside-services staff. Assist with opening and closing procedures and daily financial reconciliation. Maintain a professional, welcoming, and organized golf shop environment. Tournament & Event Operations Assist in planning, preparing, and executing club tournaments, leagues, outings, and special events. Prepare scorecards, cart signs, pairings, starting assignments, scoreboards, and tournament results. Assist with event registration and communication with participants. Play an active role in the execution of the Pine to Palm Tournament and other major Detroit Country Club events. Player Development & Instruction Help lead the junior golf programs, clinics, camps, and other player-development initiatives. Provide individual and group golf instruction as qualifications and experience allow. Help develop programming that encourages juniors, beginners, women, and other golfers to become more involved in the game. Promote golf instruction and player-development opportunities throughout the season. Golf Shop & Merchandising Assist with receiving, displaying, organizing, and selling golf shop merchandise. Maintain attractive and professional merchandise displays. Assist with inventory management and special orders. Develop product knowledge in apparel, equipment, footwear, and accessories. Help identify opportunities to increase golf shop sales and improve the member and guest shopping experience. Club & Member Engagement Build positive relationships with Detroit Country Club guests and season pass holders. Represent Detroit Country Club professionally both on and off the property. Assist with club communications, promotions, and golf-related social media when needed. Participate in club events and activities that strengthen member engagement.
