Entry-Level Facilities TechnicianThis onsite Entry-Level Facilities Technician role supports facility operations for a newly commissioned laboratory building in Manassas, VA. You will assist with laboratory and facility equipment installation and setup, perform facility rounds, support preventative and general maintenance, track equipment and parts inventory, and maintain accurate records using Microsoft Excel and facility documentation systems. Working under established procedures and guidance, you will apply basic mechanical aptitude, follow written and verbal instructions, and help ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of laboratory, office, and support spaces. Comprehensive training is provided to help you succeed in this technical facilities environment.ResponsibilitiesSupport the installation, setup, relocation, and assembly of laboratory and facility equipment in a newly commissioned building following established procedures and documentation.Perform routine facility rounds to monitor equipment performance, building conditions, and laboratory, office, and support areas, promptly reporting any issues or irregularities.Assist with preventative maintenance activities on facility and laboratory equipment according to scheduled work orders and standard operating procedures.Support general maintenance tasks across the facility, including basic repairs, adjustments, and upkeep to maintain a clean, organized, and functional environment.Complete basic mechanical tasks using hand tools, including tightening, adjusting, and replacing components under established guidance.Assist with equipment troubleshooting and repairs by following instructions, documenting findings, and escalating issues when additional support is needed.Track equipment, supplies, and replacement parts inventory using spreadsheets and facility management systems to ensure availability of critical items.Maintain accurate maintenance, equipment, and work order records in documentation systems, Microsoft Excel, and related digital tools.Enter, update, and close work orders in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or similar work order platforms, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.Follow detailed written and verbal instructions, standard operating procedures, and facility protocols with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) in laboratory and clean room areas.Maintain organized work areas, properly store tools and materials, and support a safe and compliant operating environment.Work independently on assigned tasks, manage priorities, and recognize when to escalate issues or request additional technical support.Collaborate with facility and laboratory staff to coordinate equipment moves, installations, and maintenance activities with minimal disruption to operations.Essential SkillsHigh school diploma and at least 1 year of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to safely use hand tools while performing facility and equipment support activities.Experience following detailed written and verbal instructions and established procedures with strong accuracy and attention to detail.Ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks, and determine when escalation or additional support is needed.Experience maintaining accurate records, completing documentation, and tracking equipment, inventory, or maintenance activities.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Excel and Word, for data entry, tracking, and reporting.Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), work order systems, or digital recordkeeping tools.Comfort working in laboratory, industrial, or technical facility environments while adhering to safety and cleanliness standards.Additional Skills & QualificationsExposure to facility maintenance, laboratory support, or equipment installation in laboratory, industrial, or technical settings.Experience supporting HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems in a facilities maintenance context.Experience in facilities maintenance, mechanical systems, or technical trades is beneficial.Experience using documentation systems or CMMS platforms to log work orders and maintenance records is a plus.Ability to collaborate effectively with facility, laboratory, and office staff to coordinate maintenance and equipment activities.Strong organizational skills for managing inventory, parts tracking, and multiple concurrent tasks.Why Work Here?You will work in a brand-new, climate-controlled facility with modern laboratories and clean room areas, supported by clear procedures and structured training to help you grow your technical skills. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
