Neurologist PositionSemmes-Murphey Clinic is committed to implementing a team-based approach to provide excellence in patient care. The Neurologist will work with other members of Semmes-Murphey Clinic to provide clinical services, and is expected to participate in the appropriate team activities with the objective of providing a high standard of clinical practice and clinical expertise, while contributing to the provision of efficient and effective Neurological services at Semmes-Murphey Clinic. The Neurologist's primary responsibility is to diagnose, treat and manage nervous system disorders and diseases by administering a variety of tests and deciding what treatment and/or procedure will provide the best inpatient and outpatient care for patients.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform comprehensive and problem focused histories and physical examinations on patients using medical instruments and equipment, ascertaining symptoms indicative of neurological disorders including cognitive/behavioral injuries of the brain, cerebrovascular diseases (strokes, sleep disorders, peripheral nervous system infections, brain and spinal cord tumors, neurodegenerative disorders, myelitis, movement disorders, coma, stupor and encephalopathy)Order, perform and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests such as CAT scans, MRI's, EEG's, myleograms and bone scans and other laboratory and radiographic studies to develop a treatment plan for Neurologic conditionsImplement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions, where appropriate, prescribing medications and recommended dietary and physical therapy activity programs, and refer patient to specialists for additional careHospital duties to include consultations, admissions, and provision of treatment and therapeutic plan for hospitalized patients, reports, discharge planning and discharge summariesAssist in the planning of Neurologic services at SMC and maintain a high standard of integrated patient careDesign, conduct and/or participate in research studiesAssist in the development of junior medical officers and other staff in training, where requiredRequirementsMinimum RequirementsComplete a degree from an accredited school of medicineComplete an accredited program of neurologyPass five (5) oral exams during residency (Board Eligible)Pass written exam (Board Certified)Maintain licensure in the state practicingKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesExcellent communication and writing skills, effective interpersonal skills, and productive work ethicEmotional strength and maturity, as well as passion, empathy and energyEthical nature with the intent to do what is right for patients, colleagues, the practice and society, keeping the best interests of others in mind
