Senior Engineering Manager

Senior Engineering Manager – Diabetes Care Division Senior Engineering Manager, overseeing overall operations engineering activities at a manufacturing site(s) to ensure products are manufactured consistently based on Abbott quality standards. Responsibilities Lead end‑to‑end project management, ensuring projects are executed on time and within budget. Ensure performance, output, and continuous improvement of fully and/or partly automated lines/processes. Oversee all operations engineering activities across multiple product lines and shifts. Anticipate and resolve high‑level issues and conflicts impacting operational success. Make difficult decisions regarding priorities among projects and programs. Identify strategic and tactical risks, mitigating them through early risk assessment and mitigation strategies. Set and monitor performance and value indicators, leading project audits and adjusting as required. Drive operational efficiencies and optimisations into manufacturing processes. Initiate and cultivate open, honest relationships with colleagues, customers, contractors, and vendors. Manage department financial budget planning and multi‑year planning. Hire, retain, and develop a diverse, highly qualified engineering team; provide ongoing performance feedback, coaching, and mentoring. Support development of new and existing products, materials, and manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency and cost‑effectiveness. Lead cross‑functional relationships with R&D, Quality, Clinical, Regulatory, and other departments. Ensure compliance with FDA, GMP, and other regulatory requirements. Uphold company initiatives and ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and Environmental, Health & Safety requirements. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or closely related discipline, or equivalent technical experience. Minimum 8 years of significant engineering, project management, and/or operational experience. Extensive experience managing operations engineering activities at a manufacturer site, preferably in a highly regulated industry. Proven track record of leading large‑scale, automated manufacturing lines focused on performance and continuous improvement. Experience in team management, including hiring, development, and succession planning for a diverse workforce. Leading large, complex project activity components (scope, schedule, budgets, risk register, etc.). Strong knowledge of FDA, GMP, Environmental, Health & Safety regulations, QMS, and EMS. Deep understanding of automated manufacturing processes. Expertise in project management, budgeting, scheduling, and cross‑functional collaboration. Leadership skills in building, managing, and developing high‑performing engineering teams. Familiarity with strategic planning and implementation within a global, matrixed organization. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present and secure buy‑in from upper management.
