The Role

As an L&D RN, you will provide expert, respectful birthing care that promotes mutual respect, shared decision-making, and informed consent. You will champion patient autonomy and dignity for all patients regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or language. You will utilize the nursing process to manage high-stress, fast-paced situations while collaborating closely with our multidisciplinary health care team.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

• Patient-Centered Care: Provide comprehensive, respectful maternity and newborn care, adhering to WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
• Clinical Management: Utilize the nursing process to meet age-specific biophysical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs from admission through discharge.
• Acute Interventions: Safely administer blood and blood products, manage emergency situations, and assume Charge Nurse responsibilities as assigned.
• Safety & Compliance: Adhere to infection control standards, Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals, ANA Code of Nursing Ethics, and the Magnet model.
• Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with physicians, midwives, and ancillary staff, delegating activities appropriately in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act.
• Continuous Improvement: Participate actively in unit-based performance improvement initiatives, complete required competencies, and attend staff meetings and mandatory in-services.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Required .
• Experience:
• • Minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience in Labor & Delivery (L&D) Required .
  • Minimum of 1 year of acute care nursing experience Required .

Licenses & Certifications

• Registered Nurse (RN): Active New York State RN License Required .
• BLS: Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) Required .
• ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA) – Required for newly hired experienced RNs within 180 days .
• NRP: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (AHA) – Required for L&D RNs within 180 days .

Skills & Competencies

• Solid knowledge of current nursing, medical, and health trends in maternity care.
• Strong assessment, problem-solving, judgment, and critical decision-making skills.
• Ability to thrive and adapt in a high-stress, fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions.
• Acutely attentive to detail, emergency sounds, and signals at all times.
• Proficient in operating clinical and computer equipment.
