Athletic Trainer

Overview Cognito Systems, a joint venture with Planned Systems International (PSI), is seeking an Athletic Trainer to support the U.S. Army's Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) program at Ft. Riley, Junction City, and Manhattan, KS. This role is part of the Army's largest human performance optimization initiative, contributing to an increased Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) pass rate, reduced musculoskeletal injuries, and improved behavioral health. Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including physical therapists, strength and conditioning coaches, dietitians, cognitive performance experts, and occupational therapists. Deliver prevention‑focused care, acute injury management, and rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries. Implement performance‑optimization strategies across the five H2F readiness domains: physical, mental, nutritional, sleep, and spiritual. Provide evidence‑based strategies to unit leaders to reduce injuries, promote recovery, and enhance overall unit readiness. Utilize data and tools from the Center for Initial Military Training (CIMT) to track and improve performance outcomes. Contribute to improving soldier performance, ACFT pass rates, and resilience across the force. Minimum Requirements Degree: Bachelor's Degree. Education: Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and passing score from the BOC for the Athletic Trainer. National Provider Identifier (NPI) required. Certification: Unrestricted state license/registration/certification in any of the 49 regulated states, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. In‑state licensure will be required during onboarding. Experience: At least two years of relevant Athletic Training work experience within the last three years, preferably with active populations such as military, high school, collegiate, or professional sports. Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship. Credentialing: Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and maintain current physical and immunizations. Physical Demands Dynamic on‑site work requiring adaptability in a fast‑paced environment. Duties may shift during the workday. Hands‑on interaction with soldiers during training or recovery, including lifting up to 45 pounds and spending significant time on feet in various elements while carrying supplies.
