Maintenance Technician

This role sets up, operates, repairs, and maintains corrugated packaging machinery, ensuring equipment runs safely and efficiently on a night shift schedule. You will perform preventative and reactive maintenance, troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, and work with pneumatic and hydraulic systems to keep production equipment in optimal condition.

Responsibilities

• Observe and listen to operating machines and equipment to diagnose malfunctions and determine the need for adjustment or repair.
• Study blueprints, sketches, machine parts, and specifications to determine the type and dimensions of metal stock required for repairs or fabrication.
• Move existing equipment and set up new equipment as needed to support production requirements.
• Dismantle machines or equipment to examine parts for defects or to remove defective components.
• Replace defective parts with new components, or repair and reproduce parts from various types of metal stock.
• Assemble machines and perform test operations to verify that malfunctions have been corrected.
• Maintain and lubricate machine tools and equipment on a regular schedule.
• Monitor and audit equipment performance, perform calibrations, and carry out preventative maintenance tasks.
• Install plumbing and associated fittings to support equipment and facility needs.
• Install electrical conduit and conductors in accordance with local, state, and federal codes.
• Install pneumatic and hydraulic hoses and fittings, ensuring proper function and safety.
• Lift and move heavy objects, up to 70 pounds, safely and in accordance with company procedures.
• Obtain and maintain a forklift license and any required equipment operation licenses as directed.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance to support continuous operations.
• Comply with company policies and procedures, as well as all applicable laws and regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support maintenance and production operations.

Essential Skills

• One to three years of related maintenance experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High school diploma or GED, or equivalent education.
• Demonstrated ability to perform essential job functions in an industrial maintenance environment.
• Basic electrical knowledge, including controls, troubleshooting, and reading electrical schematics.
• Advanced mechanical skills, including preventative and reactive maintenance on industrial equipment.
• Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems and how to repair them.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical documentation.
• Experience with electrical troubleshooting, including three-phase systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment at a basic level.
• Capability to lift up to 70 pounds safely and perform physically demanding tasks in an industrial setting.
• Willingness and ability to obtain Arc Flash certification if not already certified.
• Willingness and ability to obtain a forklift license and any other required equipment certifications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with HVAC systems in an industrial environment.
• Welding skills for light fabrication and repair work.
• Familiarity with PLC controls and conveyor systems.
• Prior experience in corrugated packaging or similar manufacturing environments.
• Arc Flash certification (or the ability to complete training to obtain this certification).
• Comfort working with industrial schematics and complex mechanical assemblies.

Work Environment

This is a night shift position working four 10-hour shifts from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Monday through Thursday, with the potential for up to 8 hours of overtime on Friday. You will work in a manufacturing plant with moving mechanical parts and corrugated packaging equipment. The environment includes frequent exposure to extreme heat, very loud noise levels, and a risk of electrical shock. You may occasionally encounter fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration, and work at high or precarious places. Hearing protection is required due to noise levels, and safety glasses must be worn within the plant at all times. EH-rated safety shoes or safety boots made of leather are required as part of the dress code. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of MARION, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
