Position Summary Physical Therapists (PTs) provides a variety of medical services to help individualswhohavebeeninjuredorphysicallyaffectedbyillnesstorecover orimprovefunction.Aphysicaltherapistmustbeabletoevaluateapatient’s conditionanddeviseacustomizedphysicalrehabilitationandtreatmentplan. The PTs’ goal is to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functionalability,inordertomaximizequalityoflife. Position Responsibilities Plansandadministersmedicallyprescribedphysicaltherapytreatment for patients suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint and bone diseases,torestorefunction,relievepain,andpreventdisability Reviewsphysician'sreferral(prescription)andpatient'sconditionand medicalrecordstodeterminephysicaltherapytreatmentrequired Tests and measures patient's strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency,andrecordsfindingstodeveloporrevisetreatmentprograms Plansandprepareswrittentreatmentprogrambasedonevaluationof patientdata Administersmanualexercisestoimproveandmaintainfunction Instructs, motivates, and assists patient to perform various physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities,daily-livingactivities,andinuseofassistantandsupportive devices,suchascrutches,canes,andprostheses Administerstreatmentsinvolvingapplicationofphysicalagents,using equipment, such as hydrotherapy tanks and whirlpool baths, moist packs,ultravioletandinfraredlamps,andultrasoundmachines Evaluateseffectsoftreatmentatvariousstagesandadjuststreatments to achievemaximum Administersmassage Administerstractiontorelievepain Recordstreatment,response,andprogressinpatient'schartorenters information intocomputer Instructspatientandfamilyintreatmentprocedurestobecontinuedat home Confers with physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program, and integratephysicaltherapytreatmentwithotheraspectsofpatient's healthcare Orients,instructs,anddirectsworkactivitiesofassistantsandaides Performsotherposition-relateddutiesasassigned,dependingon assignmentsetting Completerequiredorientationasdirectedbyfacility FollowfacilityandOSHAsafetyrulesandprocedureswhileon assignment FollowfacilityandGHRUnusualOccurrenceProtocol Respectculturalandreligiouspracticesofpatients Uphold HIPAAregulations Punctualanddependentforassigned/confirmedshifts Position Requirements GraduateofanaccreditedPTprogram CurrentPTlicense,ingoodstandingwiththeStatelicensingboard Minimumofone(1)yearPTexperience,incorrespondingsetting Federal-,State-andGHR-requiredcredentialscurrentandonfile Cognitiveskillsasrelatedtotheposition Working Conditions Eveningandweekendworkmayberequiredinordertofitpatientschedules. Thejobisphysicallydemanding.PhysicalTherapistsarerequiredtostandfor long periods of time. They spend considerable time stooping, kneeling and crouching.PTsmoveheavyequipment.Theyassistwithpatienttransfersand liftsorhelpthemturn,standorwalk.So,toguardagainstbackinjury,theymust follow proper body mechanics and procedures for lifting/moving patients. Physical Therapists that work in sub-acute or long-term care settings,havepatientsthatneedmoreassistance;therefore,thejobismore physicallydemanding,comparedtoPTsthatworkinout-patientsettings. Physical Demands Abilitytoliftfifty(50)pounds.Moving,liftingortransferringofpatients mayinvolveliftingofupto100pounds. Abilitytostandforextendedperiods Fine motorskills Visualacuity requirementsthatareconsideredtobeimportantforanaverage,successful work performance of a specific job. In order to classify the occupation of a worker with a physical demand rating, the most strenuous and frequently performedtasksareevaluated.Theoverallphysicaldemandratingforajobof the PT falls within the Medium classification according to the Dictionary of Occupational Titles. However, due to the population in contracted facilities, thispositionhasbeenclassifiedasHeavy(exerting50to100poundsofforce occasionally, and/or 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 poundsofforceconstantlytomoveobjects. #J-18808-Ljbffr
