As an ETL / Data Engineer (BigQuery & Starburst) , your challenge is to design, build, and optimize modern data platforms that process and analyze massive volumes of enterprise data. You will leverage Google BigQuery, Starburst/Trino, Python, SQL, and Spark to create scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, deliver high-performance analytics solutions, and enable business stakeholders to make data-driven decisions. Your expertise will help improve data quality, governance, performance, and cost efficiency while supporting cloud-native data architectures and distributed query processing frameworks. Additional Information The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Charlotte, NC is $110K - $120K/year & benefits (see below). Job Description: Must have strong hands-on experience with Google BigQuery , including data modeling, query tuning, performance optimization, and cost management. Extensive experience designing and developing ETL/ELT pipelines for large-scale data processing environments. Strong expertise with Starburst, Trino, or Presto for distributed and federated query processing. Proficient in Python, SQL, and Spark-based processing frameworks . Experience working with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory (ADF), or similar scheduling platforms . Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts , dimensional modeling, and data architecture best practices. Experience handling structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data across enterprise platforms. Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality frameworks. Experience optimizing data pipelines for scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency. Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP) . Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Experience with data integration, transformation, and migration projects. Understanding of CI/CD practices and DevOps methodologies for data engineering. Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments. Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to create technical documentation, data flow diagrams, and solution designs. Banking and Financial Services domain experience is highly preferred. Job Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, process, and transform large volumes of enterprise data. Build and optimize BigQuery data models and queries to ensure maximum performance, scalability, and cost efficiency. Implement distributed query processing solutions using Starburst, Trino, or Presto to enable seamless access to enterprise-wide data. Develop data transformation frameworks using Python, SQL, and Spark for batch and real-time processing workloads. Create and manage data orchestration workflows utilizing Airflow, ADF, or equivalent scheduling and automation tools. Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, and data analysts to gather requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions. Optimize data processing performance and reliability through tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting of pipelines and workloads. Implement data governance and quality controls to ensure data accuracy, consistency, lineage, and compliance standards. Support enterprise data warehousing initiatives by designing efficient schemas and supporting analytical reporting requirements. Integrate data from multiple source systems through robust ingestion and transformation frameworks. Develop reusable components and best practices to enhance data engineering productivity and maintainability. Utilize cloud-native capabilities within GCP to build scalable and cost-effective data solutions. Support CI/CD implementation and deployment automation for data engineering projects. Participate in Agile ceremonies and technical reviews , contributing to sprint planning, estimation, and code reviews. Document technical architecture, data flows, and operational procedures to support ongoing maintenance and knowledge sharing. Research and recommend emerging technologies and best practices to continuously improve data platform capabilities and operational efficiency.
