Laundry Attendant

GENERAL DESCRIPTION Responsible to perform all aspects of laundry care ensuring a pleasing home-like environment for residents, employees and visitors. Starting pay rate is $14.00. Duties require being on your feet most of the day, bending, pulling, pushing and lifting. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Bags and transports soiled laundry from resident rooms to laundry room Observes sanitation guidelines and universal precautions. Separates and sorts linens and clothing per company policies and procedures Pre-rinses heavily soiled items when needed Washes and dries each type of load on proper cycle at proper temperature Removes cleaned/dried items and sorts by name Properly hangs or folds all laundered items Returns clean laundry to correct resident room; stores according to policy. At all stages of laundry, observes items for damage or missing identification and sets aside for repair or labeling Keeps housekeeping and laundry areas clean and organized Ensures that hazardous cleaning products are properly used, labeled and stored when not in use Establishes and maintains good relationships with residents and family members Practices proper body mechanics when lifting and follows all other safety guidelines Follows company guidelines for uniforms and name badges Uses company-provided equipment properly as intended Encourages teamwork and promotes company philosophy Attends required training and meetings Becomes familiar and understands the steps for emergency response, including evacuation All employees are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all community residents Performs other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Able to read, write, speak and understand the English language and able to communicate effectively. Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus. Knowledge of OSHA Standards and safety procedures preferred Understand the steps for emergency response including fire evacuation Is prompt and able to perform the required duties of the position on a regular, predictable basis EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Minimum one-year experience in a senior community or healthcare environment preferred PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position: Frequently stand, walk, sit, push, climb and/or balance, stoop and kneel up to eight hours a day Frequently support up to 70 pounds Frequently lift/carry up to 50 pounds Subject to infectious diseases, substances, odors, etc. throughout the work day.
